Title: Assistant Materials Manager

Reports to: Materials Manager

Location: Lafayette, IN

Position Overview

The Assistant Materials Manager supports the Materials Manager in planning, coordinating, and controlling material requirements for manufacturing operations. This role ensures a consistent flow of approved materials aligned with production schedules and customer delivery commitments. The position plays a key role in demand planning, supply planning, inventory accuracy, and on-time delivery performance.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Sales & Operations Planning — Assist in developing the Demand Plan based on sales backlog. Support ongoing S&OP rollout, including forecasting and inventory management improvements.

• Plant Shipment Goals — Contribute by driving monthly shipments to meet AOP goals

• Forecasting — Support forecast throughout the month.

• Daily Shipment Coordination — Partner with Customer Service to ensure timely shipments.

• Cycle Counting — Support cycle count programs to ensure inventory accuracy.

• System Improvements — Support continuous improvement of material management systems.

• On-Time Delivery Support — Contribute to achieving customer OTD goals.

• AFM performance — Contribute and drive AFM channel to meet customer needs.

• Receiving-Ensures prompt and economical receipt of materials, supplies and parts. Ensures that plant standards and requirements are met.

• Leadership- Ensure appropriate leadership and development of his/her team: define clear objectives, allocate resources, monitor activities, allocate fair rewards, provide developmental opportunities etc.

Knowledge & Skills Requirements

  • Strong understanding of MPS/MRP systems (SAP preferred) and ability to integrate with JIT and Lean Manufacturing principles.
  • Strong effective leadership skills
  • Ability to apply continuous improvement tools such as pull systems, process mapping, and JIT.
  • Effective communication and presentation skills across all organizational levels.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and diverse backgrounds.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Ability to read production drawings and understand manufacturing processes.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Ability to meet physical requirements: frequent walking, bending, kneeling, stair climbing, and standing.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to define problems, collect data, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Demonstrated ability to participate in goal setting, performance feedback, and self-development.

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Logistics, Manufacturing, Operations, Engineering, or related field; or equivalent relevant experience.

• Minimum 5 years of management experience in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Work Relationships

This position interacts frequently with machine operators, schedulers/coordinators, buyers, manufacturing engineers, internal customer service teams, customers and external sales representatives. The role directly supports fulfillment of customer requirements and achievement of plant shipping goals.
