The Apple News Canada team is looking for a highly experienced, dedicated, bilingual news editor to deliver timely national, international, and local news, as well as engaging features, to Canadian readers. Working in both English and French, this editor will join the Canadian team in its mission to deliver accurate, complete coverage of the news and to support our partners through curation of their best work.

Description

The successful candidate will have significant experience working in a news environment that involves making decisions about news selections for a large audience. In addition, the editor should have experience identifying engaging long-form features and accurate, helpful service pieces. They will be bilingual, capable of reading the news in English and in French with nuanced comprehension. They will have the skills to maintain professional relationships within a large organization and with major publishing partners, and experience with using data to inform journalistic decisions. Significant work history in a digital news environment is a must.

For postings in Ontario, qualified candidates can expect a hiring rate up to the midpoint of the pay range. On an exceptional basis, candidates with significant experience and skills for the role may be paid up to the range maximum.

Responsibilities

• Curate the most relevant and complete news of the moment in both French and English Apple News Canada apps, as well as the Stocks and Bourse apps, and more
• Communicate with our partners, our internal teams, and editorial colleagues to ensure continuous up-time
• Identify and promote top reads for subscribers from a wide variety of partners
• Take on some early or late shifts as needed, as well as occasional weekend or holiday coverage
• Work in our rapidly changing digital environment
• Track upcoming news, calendar, and cultural moments
• Analyze, document, and present results; devise plans for continuous improvement
• Work both independently and collaboratively on longer-term projects and key moments
• Follow a style guide to ensure precise display copy in English and in French.

Minimum Qualifications

• Journalistic experience in a newsroom or related news environment (7+ years)
• Fluency in English and French. The position requires daily basis interactions with multiple internal teams and partners, which requires communicating in English
• Experience selecting news and features that inform and engage a national audience using accurate, well-considered, and well-described information
• Diligent in monitoring and updating lineups in a fast-paced news environment
• Deep knowledge of the Canadian and international media landscape
• Skill at writing engaging, accurate display copy and editing copy against a style guide
• Completion of an accredited journalism program
• Flexibility to handle a changing schedule that responds to the news

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience driving subscription sign-ups and retaining subscribers through engaging curation
• Well-developed organizational skills; the ability to balance and complete multiple projects independently
• Experience with analyzing and presenting results clearly and effectively, including with Numbers and Keynote
• Familiarity with Apple and its products
• Terrific relationship-building skills and the instinct to be calm and collaborative under pressure
• Enthusiasm to work with international peers collaboratively across time zones
