CAD Drafter – JOINERY & SHOPFITTING
Job Description
Woodland Shopfitting is looking for an experienced JOINERY DRAFTER to join our team and produce accurate, detailed and manufacture-ready drawings for commercial joinery and shopfitting projects.
This is an important role within our business. You'll take architectural plans, design concepts and project requirements and turn them into practical joinery solutions that our factory can confidently manufacture and our site teams can efficiently install.
A strong understanding of cabinetmaking, joinery or shopfitting is essential.
You might currently be working as a Cabinet Maker, Joiner, Shopfitter, CAD Technician, Joinery Drafter or CAD Designer and be looking for your next step.
If you understand the difference between something that looks good on a screen and something that can actually be manufactured, assembled, transported and installed — we'd like to hear from you.
ABOUT WOODLAND
Woodland Shopfitting is an Auckland-based commercial interior fitout and joinery business working across retail, hospitality, medical, commercial and other interior projects.
We combine quality craftsmanship, practical knowledge and technology to deliver projects for clients across New Zealand.
We're a hands-on team. We value collaboration, flexibility, efficiency, integrity and supporting each other to get the job done properly.
ABOUT THE ROLE
As our CAD Operator, you'll work closely with Project Managers and our factory team to develop detailed joinery drawings and production documentation.
You'll be responsible for ensuring that drawings are not only accurate, but practical and ready for manufacture.
Your responsibilities will include
- Interpreting architectural plans, sketches, specifications and design concepts
- Developing detailed joinery drawings including plans, elevations, sections, details and component drawings
- Applying practical knowledge of joinery construction, materials, finishes, hardware, fixings and manufacturing processes
- Allowing for appropriate clearances, tolerances, reveals, scribes, fillers and installation requirements
- Reviewing site measurements, existing conditions and site photographs
- Working with Project Managers to resolve technical issues
- Liaising with the factory during manufacture and responding to production queries
- Maintaining accurate and organised CAD files and documentation
- Maintaining current hardware and material information within PYTHA
- Continuously developing your CAD and technical knowledge
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Essential
We are looking for someone with practical industry knowledge in Cabinet making/Joinery/Shopfitting or Interior Fitouts:
You will need to understand how joinery is constructed and manufactured.
You should be confident interpreting technical drawings and specifications and be able to identify potential issues before they reach the factory.
CAD experience
Ideally, you will have
- Experience using PYTHA or similar joinery/CAD software
- Previous CAD drafting or CAD operation experience
- Strong technical drawing skills
- A good understanding of architectural and construction principles
- Experience producing drawings for manufacture
THE PERSON WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for someone who
- Has excellent attention to detail
- Takes genuine pride in getting drawings right
- Understands materials, hardware and manufacturing processes
- Can work under pressure and meet project deadlines
- Communicates clearly with Project Managers, designers and factory staff
- * Understands the importance of accuracy in commercial joinery
- WHY JOIN WOODLAND?
This is an opportunity to become part of a growing commercial joinery and shopfitting business where your technical knowledge will have a direct impact on the finished product.
You'll work on a variety of projects rather than producing repetitive drawings all day. You'll see your work move from concept → CAD → manufacture → installation.
We value people who bring ideas, solve problems and take pride in what they do.
If you're a joiner who knows CAD — or a CAD operator who genuinely understands joinery — we want to hear from you.
