About the Role

AMS Build & Renos Ltd is seeking an experienced Certifying Plumber & Certifying Drainlayer to join our Auckland-based construction team.

The successful applicant will undertake and oversee plumbing and drainlaying work across residential new builds, renovations, extensions and other construction projects. The role requires a high standard of workmanship and the ability to ensure plumbing and drainage installations comply with New Zealand regulatory and building requirements.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Carry out and supervise residential plumbing and drainlaying work.

Install, alter, maintain and repair sanitary plumbing systems.

Install hot and cold water supply systems and associated pipework.

Install toilets, showers, baths, basins, kitchen sinks, tapware, hot-water cylinders and other plumbing fixtures.

Install and repair foul-water and stormwater drainage systems.

Carry out sewer and stormwater connections.

Install underground drainage pipes to correct lines, levels and gradients.

Install gully traps, inspection points and other drainage components.

Read and interpret architectural, plumbing and drainage plans and specifications.

Set out plumbing and drainage work according to approved construction documentation.

Test plumbing and drainage installations and identify and rectify faults, leaks or other defects.

Coordinate plumbing and drainage activities with builders, project managers, subcontractors and other trades.

Arrange and prepare plumbing and drainage work for relevant inspections.

Ensure plumbing and drainlaying work complies with the New Zealand Building Code, approved consent documentation and applicable standards.

Provide appropriate documentation and records relating to plumbing and drainage work.

Take responsibility for work performed under the employee’s certifying licence where applicable.

Supervise plumbers, drainlayers, apprentices and other authorised workers where permitted.

Provide technical guidance to the construction team regarding plumbing and drainage requirements.

Identify potential issues in plans or on site before work proceeds and communicate these to management.

Follow all company and site health and safety procedures.

Maintain tools, equipment and work areas in a safe and professional condition.

Perform other reasonable plumbing and drainlaying duties associated with the company’s construction projects.

Essential Requirements

Current New Zealand Certifying Plumber practising licence.

Current New Zealand Certifying Drainlayer practising licence.

Relevant plumbing and drainlaying qualifications and registration.

Good understanding of New Zealand plumbing, drainage and building requirements.

Ability to read and interpret construction and drainage plans.

Experience working on residential construction projects.

Ability to work independently and supervise other workers where required.

Good communication and problem-solving skills.

Strong commitment to quality workmanship and health and safety.

Full New Zealand driver’s licence or ability to legally drive for work purposes.

Preferred Experience

Experience with residential new builds, renovations, extensions, sewer and stormwater connections and drainage works across Auckland would be advantageous.

The successful applicant will be expected to maintain all registrations and practising licences necessary to legally perform and certify the plumbing and drainlaying work associated with their position.
