Christmas Driver (Manual Transmission)
Job Description
Join the Wellington City Mission’s Christmas team as a Christmas Driver! In this role, you’ll be working with the Christmas team and volunteers to pick up Star Boxes and donations from around Wellington and help coordinate and complete various afternoon tasks and van-runs. Your efforts will help ensure families can enjoy a festive Christmas with dignity and choice.
About the role:
As a Christmas Driver, you'll be at the heart of the Christmas operations. You'll guide volunteers in collecting donations safely and efficiently, help manage logistics across the city, and complete essential support tasks in the afternoon. This is a hands-on, fast-paced role that combines teamwork, problem-solving, and a love for spreading festive cheer.
Key responsibilities:
Support the Christmas projects at WCM in picking up Star Boxes and donations from around Wellington.
Navigate challenging pick-up locations, and lift heavy, bulky, or awkwardly shaped items.
Assist with afternoon runs and miscellaneous tasks to support Christmas operations.
Provide guidance and encouragement to volunteers, fostering a positive, festive, and safe environment.
Coordinate workflows and help ensure timely and efficient collection and delivery of donations.
Act as a point of contact for volunteers, resolving questions or issues promptly.
Uphold health and safety standards during all collections and activities.
What we’re looking for in a candidate:
Must be able to drive a manual transmission and be comfortable driving a van.
Energetic, proactive, and physically capable of lifting and transporting heavy or awkward items.
Friendly, approachable, and able to motivate and lead volunteers.
Highly organised, responsible, and able to manage multiple tasks and locations efficiently.
Strong communication skills, with the ability to give clear instructions and guidance.
Comfortable navigating the city and problem-solving logistical challenges.
Available full-time, Monday to Friday, from October 28th to December 24th.
