Are you an experienced Endoscopy Nurse seeking a leadership challenge? We are recruiting a CNM2 to join our dynamic, growing service at MUH.

MUH is recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Gastroenterology & Endoscopy, delivering a full range of diagnostic and therapeutic GI services and our Endoscopy services are scaling up - more procedures, more scope, more impact. This is an exciting time to be joining MUH as the new developments include additional suites with additional roles for all disciplines, especially nursing.

The CNM2 post is a pivotal clinical leadership role, guiding care delivery and ensuring compliance with best practice. You will lead and support a highly skilled, multidisciplinary team across endoscopy, decontamination, daycase and inpatient settings, supported by a CNM3, CNM1's and a Clinical Facilitator.

The Endoscopy CNM2 will report to the Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON), Divisional Lead and is professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing (DON).

**Responsibilities Include:**

  • Provide a high level of professional and clinical leadership in all aspects of nursing care.
  • Act as positive and accountable role model in providing direct patient care.
  • Assess, evaluate and review the requirements of individual patient needs prior to their endoscopy procedure.
  • Manage patient care to ensure the highest professional standards an evidence-based care planning approach.
  • Identify objectives, evaluate and manage the implementation of best practice, policies and procedures.
  • Provide specialist information and education to patients and their families with regard to improving their understanding, coping and effective management of their upcoming endoscopy procedure.
  • Manage the caseload of all patients undergoing elective endoscopy (urgent, routine and surveillance) procedures within the Mercy University Hospital.
  • Use a patient centred approach in all aspects of practice.
  • Provide patients/carers with advice, support and reassurance via telephone calls.
  • Respect the dignity and confidentiality of patients, serving as their advocate.
  • Record information on patients electronically (iPMS), which will provide data for auditing the service.
  • Develop, contribute to and review SOPs, policies, protocols, patient information leaflets and other associated documentation.
  • Identify and implement health promotion strategies for patient/client groups in accordance with public health agenda including diabetes/obesity/smoking cessation.
  • Contribute to service planning and budgetary processes through use of audit data and specialist knowledge.
  • Review policies, procedures, guidelines and protocols in relation to the gastrointestinal service in regards a pre assessment pre-endoscopy procedure to ensure they are continually updated in line with best practice evidence.
  • Be self-directed in his/her learning to ensure continued professional credibility.

**Essential Eligibility Criteria -** ***Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:***

  • Are registered in the relevant division of the Register of Nurses & Midwives maintained by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI/Bord Altranais agus Cnaimhseachais na hEireann) or entitled to be so registered.
  • Have at least 5 years post registration full time (or an aggregate of 5 years post registration full time) experience of which 2 years (or an aggregate of 2 years post registration full time experience) must be in the speciality or related area.
  • Have the clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
  • Candidates must demonstrate evidence of continuous professional development.
  • Candidates must possess the requisite knowledge and ability including a high standard of suitability and clinical, managerial and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.

**Desirable Eligibility Criteria****:**

  • Post Registration Qualification in the related area, or commitment to undertake.
  • Previous JAG accreditation experience.

**NMBI Annual Registration - On appointment, practitioners must:**

  • Maintain live annual registration on the relevant division of the Register of Nurses and Midwives maintained by the NMBI.
  • Confirm annual registration with NMBI to the MUH by way of the annual Patient Safety Assurance Certificate (PSAC).
