**Temporary Contract, Part Time Hours (0.5 WTE)**

The Clinical Placement Co-Ordinator (CPC)/Clinical Nurse Manager 2 (CNM2) will report to the Nurse Practice Development Coordinator and is professionally accountable to the Director of Nursing (DON).

**Purpose of the Role:**

  • Ensure that the clinical placement of undergraduate student nurses meets the Standards and Requirements for Nursing education as set out by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI 2016) and is inclusive of the *NMBI Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses and Midwives* (2021) 2025.
  • Provide guidance and support to nursing students in assigned clinical areas to ensure that the clinical placements meet the requirement of the education programme, regarding required experience and learning outcomes.
  • Advise, encourage and facilitate students to progress through clinical placements, encourage students to seek out learning experiences and develop in practice.
  • Support ward staff to precept nursing students.
  • Ensure that nursing practice assessments are fairly and sensitively carried out by the appropriate Registered Nurses through effective liaison with Nurse Lecturers, Ward and Departmental Clinical Nurse Managers and Staff Nurses.
  • Facilitate the student's personal and professional development, through clinical practice, reflection and evaluation.
  • Provide support for Nurse Practice Development Coordinator with practice development initiatives as required.

**Responsibilities Include:**

  • Advise, encourage, support and facilitate nursing students' learning through a broad range of means, e.g. the identification of learning opportunities in the clinical areas, imparting knowledge and creating an environment that is conducive to learning in order that students can achieve maximum outcome from clinical placements.
  • Help create a climate in which nursing students are valued and supported.
  • Assist nursing students to adapt to the clinical environment with orientation programmes and organised reflective practice.
  • Provide guidance to Students and Preceptors/Registered Nurses on any issues relating to students' clinical practice which arise in the clinical areas.
  • Inform students of their required professional standards based on NMBI's *Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses and Midwives* 2025, UCC Practice Placement Guidelines.
  • Support and encourage reflective practice for nursing students. Support students in the completion of their reflective portfolio by assisting them to link practice to the Domains of Competence.
  • Encourage students to access, where appropriate, student support services in relation to personal issues/concerns.
  • Act as a link between the student's clinical placement areas and higher education authority. Discuss where necessary, with the assigned lecturer/clinical skills tutor, the individual student's performance and specific learning needs.

**Eligibility Criteria:**

  • Be registered on the General Division of the register of Nurses kept by the NMBI or be entitled to be so registered.
  • Have at least 5 years post registration experience of which 2 years must be in a student learning environment.
  • Have the clinical, management and administrative capacity to properly discharge the functions of the role.
  • Will demonstrate evidence of a commitment to personal professional development, training and nursing research.
  • Have excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, and be able to demonstrate a high standard of verbal and written communication skills.
  • Have completed a recognised Teaching and Assessing course/module is desirable.
  • Possess a 3rd Level qualification at level 8 (ordinary degree) or higher is desirable.
