Job Description

We are SiteHost, a New Zealand-based web hosting company known for our exceptional customer service and clever tech solutions. For over two decades, we’ve built a reputation for being the kind of team people trust with their websites, infrastructure, and problems big or small.

We're growing and looking for an experienced DevOps Engineer to join our Product and Automations Team.

This is a role that sits somewhere between Development and Operations. We're looking for someone who is comfortable working with code and infrastructure, and who enjoys solving problems that don't always fit neatly into one category.

What this Role Involves:

Working on the front lines of a busy web hosting company means you’ll get exposure to a broad range of technical challenges. The nature of our company means we are looking for candidates with solid programming and systems development skills, alongside their Operations aptitude. You won’t just be expected to code - you’ll be putting those skills to use regularly. That could involve automating workflows, creating internal tools or debugging complicated infrastructure issues and contributing to improvements across our systems. Your development skills will be essential in many aspects of our work and in the way we deal with problems.

We have a great team that knows how to get things shipped while keeping things relaxed and friendly. You’ll work across a wide range of projects, infrastructure, and programming languages, giving you plenty of opportunities to get involved across the stack. Work alongside talented developers on both new and existing products that make our customers happy. As well as that, you’ll work on internal tools to help our Operations team be as productive as possible. You'll report to the head of a wider team while being part of small sprint-based project teams.

This is an Auckland-based role working from our Penrose office. We take flexible working seriously, but the collaborative nature of our engineering teams and the work we do with our infrastructure means this role is primarily office-based.

Keep reading if you can show that you

  • Have experience building and consuming APIs, as well as an understanding of hosting fundamentals (DNS, networking, web servers).
  • Have strong hands-on experience with PHP, Python, Go, or something similar.
  • Solid hands-on experience with Linux and operating platforms used in servers.
  • Bring fantastic written and verbal communication skills, so you can clearly articulate complex issues and work effectively with other team members.

There are some other things that would be useful, like

  • An eye for spotting potential UI/UX problems.
  • Experience with cloud services and LAMP stacks.
  • * Experience mentoring or supporting up-and-coming engineers.
  • Why Work With Us?

We like to think SiteHost is a great place to work. We’re a friendly team that enjoys having fun while getting things done. Our office is a wear-what-you-want, help-yourself-to-a-great- coffee kind of a place. We’re serious about flexible working and work-life balance, too, so you’ll have the opportunity to tell us what that means for you.

It’s important to us that every role in the company lets people deepen their knowledge and skills. As any growing company does, we have challenges to overcome, but we approach those with care. You can expect us to be supportive, flexible and fair, and we’ll expect you to take initiative, step up to a challenge and pursue personal growth in a healthy way.

You can expect excellent remuneration. We’re serious about making your work rewarding and helping you get better at what you enjoy doing. Because we want SiteHost people to commit for the long term, keeping you happy is vital to both our success and yours.

Sounds good? Get started on your application now, and we’ll be in touch soon.
