Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years experience with mushroom harvesting.
- Experience in Mushroom horticulture and/or agriculture required.
- Equipment operation considered an asset.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must be eligible to work in Canada without restrictions.

- General Duties:
- Supervises the general conduct of all non-management harvesting staff, including Harvesters, Service People, Sorters and Lead Hands and ensures that pre-established facility operating procedures are properly followed by all personnel including procedures for food safety, employee safety, proper sanitation practices, harvesting equipment maintenance, etc.
- Assists the Harvest Manager with his or her duties
- Oversees safe operation of Axis Harvesting Machine
- Ensures that mushrooms are harvested and delivered to the packaging room properly, efficiently, and with due care
- Administers corrective action and/or discipline when warranted
- Ensures that facility doors are kept closed at all times and prohibits entry to any unauthorized visitors into the facility unless accompanied by company personnel
- Supports and participates in all company policies and programs including HACCP, Safety, and other operating procedures
- Recommends new or modified “Standard Operating Procedures” as they may be required
- Ensures that workers are adequately instructed and trained in safe work procedures.
- Communicates with the Farm Substrate Manager concerning compost quality and equipment concerns.
- Attends weekly Production meetings and provide feedback as to the productivity and work conditions within the Tunnel Building departments
- Supervises and leads the Tunnels/Wharf crew, including but not limited to job performance reviews and ensure proper training requirements are met.
- Responsible for associate scheduling and management of timekeeping for payroll. Back up to manager for attendance management, vacation requests and other leave requests.
- Performs transfer process to ensure quality compost.
- Monitors emptying of compost to ensure timely, safe delivery of compost to the cultivation area.
- Ensures the highest level of hygiene and sanitation within the Tunnel Barn
- Communicates necessary information to Cultivation and Grower as required on a day-to-day basis.
- Responsible for the safe operation of Heavy Equipment, including but not limited to Front end Loaders, forklift, skid steer and other farm equipment.
- Coordinates and ensures the department operates in compliance with company policies and procedures, including but not limited to Food Safety and Health and Safety policies, all applicable public laws and regulatory requirements, including but not limited to Environment, Employment and Health and Safety regulations.
- Develops department operating procedures and directs the work of all department associates.
- Communicates with Human Resources regarding associate issues and status change information. Reports injuries, property damage and near miss incidents immediately and assists in accident investigation.
- Assists the Human Resources Department in building a focused team of trained employees
- Promotes positive relations and communication between the harvesting employees and supervisors
- Responsible for the continuous improvement of productivity, quality, safety, and attendance
- Contributes to improving communication among and between farm employees, departments within the farms, between the Harvesting Department and the General Office, and between farms

- Interact with others in a manner that promotes respect, confidentiality and dignity
- Develop and actively foster an engaged work force, displaying professionalism at all times
- Monitors and assures the proper use of aprons, hairnets, knives, tags, gloves, and personal protective equipment
- Assures the safe operating condition of harvesting equipment and reports unsafe or inadequate equipment to the maintenance department and, if necessary, removes it from service
- Assists the Farm Manager in maintaining a consistent and high level of cleanliness throughout the farms
- Ensures compliance to Company policies forbidding glass and jewellery in production areas and wearing of hairnets and clean clothes, and the washing of hands
- Administers corrective action and/or discipline when warranted
- Ensures that mushrooms are harvested within packing room and customer specifications
- Sets up Quality tables, white boards, scales, and required supplies in each room
- Checks and records on control chart the quality (colour, size, stem length, dirt, disease, scaling, veil, etc.) and weight of the mushrooms that each harvester picks and, if the quality or weight is not correct, advises the harvester of the problem and ensures correction
- Ensures that quality audits are being performed continuously and responds quickly when control limits are exceeded
- Ensures the proper completion of production, quality, accident and other reports as requireda.
- Adheres to the Safety Policies, including use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) and other safety equipment
- Reports unsafe conditions immediately to the supervisor
- Reports all incidents, injuries and near misses to the supervisor immediately
- Cooperates in the Early and Safe Return to Work Program if an injury or medical illness requires accommodation.
- Enforces health and safety requirements and corrects unsafe acts and conditions immediately
- Identifies workers with problems that could affect safety at the worksite; follows up with interviews and referrals where necessary
- Participates in all required health and safety education and training
- Follows all Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP’s) as trained
- Performs any other duties that may be assigned as required.
Vacancies: 2
Hours of Work
- 5 - 6 days/week.
- Approximately 30 to 60 hours per week / 8 to 14 hours per day.
- Public holidays/weekends as scheduled.
- Daily shift start and end times for associates vary based on production.
