General Manager

About the role

Universal Packaging is a market leading supplier of Load Containment and Industrial Packaging supplies. You will be responsible for the general management of the industrial packaging business, a role heavily sales focussed. Working alongside the Leadership Team, you will assist in setting the strategic direction of industrial packaging while effectively leading and managing the day-to-day operations of the company through sales performance, managing the team and achieving broad business objectives.

You will report into and work closely with the Executive GM. This is a nationwide role with some travel involved to regional branches based in Wellington, Palmerston North and Christchurch.

Key responsibilities

• Developing and managing the annual budget & KPI's alongside the EGM NZ and Financial Controller
• Key customer and supplier relationship management
• Being part of the NZ Leadership team working alongside the EGM NZ, Financial Controller and General Managers of other subsidiary businesses
• Overall responsibility for RFP submissions
• Monthly reporting on progress towards budgets, agreed business strategies, category performance, operational performance, project deliveries and margins, legislative issues and future opportunities
• Regular monitoring of Revenue & Expenditure to ensure maximum efficiency and performance
• Monitoring team performance and dealing promptly with any issues
• Ensuring records, testing and auditing requirements are up-to-date and relevant records are present
• Complying with and pro-actively working safely according to company SHE policies and relevant legislation
• Continually grow the reputation of the Company within current markets as well as areas of growth
• About you

• 3 years + General Management experience including Sales and Operational literacy
• Experience with corporate procurement negotiation, process and RFPs
• Financial literacy, including full profit and loss responsibility
• Change management experience
• Proven ability to build and nurture relationships across the board
• Strategic Selling
• Excellent presentation and negotiation skills
• Ability to prioritise workload to meet strategic and operational requirements
• An open, professional and flexible communication style
• Intermediate (or above) computer skills
• Understanding of importation, shipping terms and foreign sourcing markets.
• Ability to be resilient in the face of some volatile and fast changing business situations.
