GNSS Integration Engineer, Sensors
Job Description
**What to Expect**
The Tesla Sensing Team is looking for an Integration Engineer to support overall sensing activities, but with a focus on supporting GNSS specific systems. The candidate will be responsible for helping to integrate software and hardware onto Tesla vehicles. This includes defining and executing tests to understand how configuration, hardware, and software changes affect the overall performance of the system.
The candidate should have a strong background in independently applying engineering principles to hands-on tasks, across both software and hardware. This includes the ability to use standard electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and arbitrary waveform generators, and familiarity with the basics of printed circuit boards. The successful candidate will be familiar with the basics for how to setup, configure, run, and modify custom Python scripts to collect and analyze data.
An integral portion of this role is to support and lead debugging efforts related to GNSS systems. The candidate must be willing to extract useful information from log files, telemetry services, and auxiliary sources of data to identify and help fix complex failure modes. The candidate must also setup custom vehicle configurations and then test drive the vehicles to help debug issues, and to validate fixes and improvements.
The candidate is expected to have strong communication skills working across both cross-functional teams and vendors. Additionally, the candidate will be responsible for driving internal line trials and tests of new components or architecture to validate the performance of the GNSS system.
**What You'll Do**
- Integrate, test, and validate new hardware and software related to vehicle sensors, with a focus on GNSS systems
- Debug and triage sensor problems discovered in the field. Work to identify the root cause and then to help implement and validate fixes
- Work with the Global Supply Chain team to handle supply chain disruptions, replacement parts, or multiple source requirements
- Drive the validation of GNSS on newly introduced platforms. This includes setting up ground truth hardware to validate position accuracy
- Ensure quality of performance before release to customers
- Interface with 3rd party vendors and suppliers and drive the suppliers to meet Tesla’s performance and timeline targets
**What You'll Bring**
- Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering, physics, or a related technical field
- 2-3 years of experience working with both hardware and software systems
- Experience using common electrical engineering laboratory tools such as multimeters, oscilloscopes, waveform generators, and soldering equipment
- Ability to do basic soldering, mechanical repairs, and other hands-on engineering tasks
- Experience with Python, git, and common software engineering tools
- Excellent written and communications skills
