**We’re Hiring!**

We are currently looking to fill a **full-time position** for a **Health & Safety Assistant** in our **Health & Safety Department** at our **Delta** facility.

**What You'll Do (Job Specific Tasks):**

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to

  • Assists in the development of the annual health and safety plans, policies, programs and procedures for the company based on the assessment of hazards, audit findings, changing legislation, and best practices while ensuring compliance with OSHA.
  • Assist the Coordinator with all injury management needs including documentation and communication with employees and health care providers.
  • In collaboration with the H&S Coordinator, investigates accidents, incidents, near misses, etc. thoroughly and responds appropriately through communicating, training and following up with supervisors and employees.
  • Provides H&S training for new and existing employees to ensure understanding of potential risks and expected behaviors within the company as needed.
  • Assists the H&S coordinator with H&S audits, visiting all sites to conduct inspections and risk assessments with the goal of reducing/addressing risks, implement corrections and ensuring compliance.
  • Co-Chairs the Joint Health and Safety Committee, ensuring all action items are followed up on and committee members are adequately trained.
  • Documents and files return to work and modified work information, working closely with H&S Coordinator, Human Resources, the employee(s), and their supervisors to ensure safe and timely return to work.
  • Ensure postings and documents for general access on the hub are updated and assist with filling, scanning and shredding old records when appropriate
  • Works with the H&S Coordinator on claims and investigations.
  • Assist with creating and maintaining a safety board
  • Create content to be posted on the breakroom TVs (safety bites, toolbox talks).
  • Update and switch out posting such as emergency contacts, JH&SC members maps, etc.
  • Assist with coordinating and evaluating Emergency Response drills and assist with coordinating and training an Emergency Response brigade, sweepers.
  • Assist with updating SDS sheets, and maintain equipment check logs
  • Ensure all first aid kits are inspected, maintained and stocked
  • Continuation of learning and development through extra-curricular courses
  • Performs other related duties and projects as required

**What You Bring (Qualifications):**

  • Minimum 1 year hands-on health and safety or leadership experience in either a production facility or agriculture are assets.
  • knowledge and understanding of OSHA purpose and health and safety
  • Knowledge of safety laws, health & safety best practices, workplace hazards and control measures
  • Knowledge of first aid and/or First Aid and CPR certification is an asset
  • Able to build positive relationships, have a collaborative working style and the ability to explain safety programs/processes to employees in an understandable manner
  • Able to work on cross-functionally with employees at all levels.
  • Good documentation, report writing and efficient document maintenance skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Good team player, positive attitude, flexible, adaptable. Is compassionate and assertive but fair
  • Good computer skills with Windows applications, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Valid driver’s license and personal vehicle are required.

**What To Expect (Working Conditions & Physical Requirements):**

Working Conditions

  • Works with a wide array of people in a team setting, these include HR, management, locals, offshore workers, contractors, etc.
  • The greenhouse may be hot, humid, moist or cold at any time of the year and during cleanout the greenhouse will be dusty.
  • Exposure to pests in the greenhouse.
  • Works Monday-Saturday, an average of 40-44 hours/week. Must be flexible to work longer hours as needed, during peak periods.

Physical Requirements

  • Spends a fair amount of time both in and out of the office
  • Travels from farm to DC frequently
