Job Summary

The

Health & Environmental Safety Advisor

will support Jealous Fruits in their pursuit to prevent accidents, incidents and events that harm people, property, or the environment. They will collaborate with the leaders on training reviews, auditing, and documentation. They will work to manage a varied number of Occupational Heath & Safety and Environmental programs and will work with all regulatory bodies. This role will support the Field operations & Packhouse Managers to ensure compliance and will report to the executive team with regular safety updates.

Duties and responsibilities

(include, but are not limited to)

  • Collaborate with management to align organizational needs with safety requirements.
  • Design and support the implementation of a safety culture throughout the company.
  • Maintain knowledge and understanding of all provincial and federal Environmental and Health and Safety regulations pertaining to Jealous Fruits
  • Initiate and maintain programs, ensuring compliance with objectives, policy, and government regulations pertaining to Occupational Health & Safety (WSBC)
  • Ensures that managers and supervisors complete incident reports, review near misses and maintain accurate records
  • Analyze claims, incident reports and audit outcomes. Be able to present analysis metrics to management and show where improvements in safety programing are needed.
  • Participate in the JHSC and assist in developing and maintaining internal audit system, including corrective actions and tracking system.
  • Monitor and coordinate the production and revision of policies, SWPs, SOP and risk assessments.
  • Conduct health and environmental hazard assessments of farms, offices, and packhouse to ensure safety standards are maintained.
  • Create and conduct supervisor and safety training with workers
  • Train and supervise seasonal assistants in season
  • Coordinate company Environmental programs, such as successful completion of an EFP
  • Mange the organization and business processes relating to safety in DMS Laserfiche.

Qualifications

  • Certificate, Diploma, Degree in Health and Safety or related field of study (or working towards certification).
  • 3+ years of experience with emphasis on health and safety implementation in agriculture, manufacturing or similar environment.
  • Ability to speak Spanish to communicate with Spanish speaking workforce is an asset.
  • Experience working with TFW programs is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of WSBC injury claim management process system.
  • Demonstrated experience in upgrading health and safety programs and process improvement.
  • Proactive and oriented to make improvements in systems and procedures.
  • Strong organizational skills, including managing and prioritizing multiple projects.
  • Strong computer skills – word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations applications.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to lead/interact with employee teams.
  • Excellent analytical and presentation skill.
  • Demonstrated ability in decision making and establishing priorities.
  • This role will need to travel to all of orchard locations on an as needed basis; we also have a processing plant that operates for 10 weeks/year
