Health & Safety Advisor

We’re looking for an experienced Health & Safety Advisor who is practical, approachable and confident working alongside operational teams. This is a hands-on role where you’ll have the opportunity to influence safety culture, support our people, identify risks and help drive continuous improvement across our business.

Working closely with our Health & Safety Manager and operational teams, you’ll be a key point of contact for health and safety matters across our regional operations.

This is a permanent part-time opportunity with potential to grow into a full-time role. Days and hours are flexible and can be discussed with the right candidate.

Regional Coverage: Waikato, South Waikato & Bay of Plenty

Key responsibilities

Provide practical H&S advice and support to managers, supervisors and employees

Monitor workplace hazards and help teams identify and control risks

Mentor and support our H&S Representatives and team leaders

Manage and support the use of our H&S operating systems and databases

Educate team leaders on H&S systems and reporting requirements

Work with operational teams to ensure compliance with company procedures and the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015

Regular regional travel is required, including the ability to stay away from home when necessary

About you

You’ll be someone who can build relationships, challenge unsafe practices and make health and safety practical for the people doing the work.

You'll ideally have:

A tertiary qualification in Occupational Health & Safety or a relevant discipline

3+ years’ experience in a health and safety role

Strong knowledge of New Zealand health and safety legislation and WorkSafe requirements

Understanding of ACC processes, workplace injury and rehabilitation

Experience with H&S systems, reporting and documentation

Strong Microsoft Office and computer skills

A full Class 1 driver's licence

The ability to work comfortably in environments involving heights and confined spaces

A practical, proactive approach to problem-solving

The ability to work independently while being a strong team contributor

It would be great if you also have;

Experience in construction, scaffolding, heavy maintenance, industrial services or another high-risk environment would be an advantage

Knowledge of ISO 45001 would also be beneficial
