Heavy and Tractor-Trailer Truck Driver
Job Description
Operate Class A commercial tractor-trailer vehicles to transport nursery stock and other unmanufactured horticultural commodities from the employer's nursery operation to customers, warehouses, storage facilities, wholesale markets, and distribution locations. Transport nursery products on local and interstate routes as assigned by the employer.
Perform required pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections; inspect trailers, tires, brakes, lights, load securement, and other safety equipment; safely secure and protect nursery stock for transportation; maintain required driver logs, electronic logging device (ELD) records, bills of lading, delivery records, and other transportation documentation; comply with applicable DOT, FMCSA, and traffic safety requirements.
Workers may assist with loading and unloading nursery stock, including trees, shrubs, plants, and other nursery products; verify quantities and condition of products being transported; protect plants from damage during loading, transportation, and unloading; and communicate with employer personnel regarding pickups and deliveries.
Workers must operate vehicles safely and comply with applicable commercial driver's license requirements. Work assignments, routes, and hours may vary depending on weather, crop conditions, nursery production, customer orders, and shipping needs.
Requirements: 24 months of experience. Requires 24 months of verifiable experience operating tractor-trailer combination vehicles. Worker must possess or be able to obtain and maintain the commercial driver's license and endorsements legally required to perform assigned driving duties. Worker must meet applicable U.S. Department of Transportation and Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration driver qualification requirements, including medical qualification and drug and alcohol testing requirements. Must be able to safely operate tractor-trailer equipment, perform required vehicle inspections, secure loads, maintain required driving records and ELD logs, and safely load and unload nursery stock when required.
