Heavy Diesel Mechanic
Job Description
Culham Engineering is seeking an experienced Heavy Diesel Mechanic to join our team in Whangarei in a full-time, permanent capacity. This is an urgent placement due to operational requirements, and we are looking to appoint the right candidate as soon as possible.
Reporting to the Transport Manager, you will be responsible for maintaining and repairing our fleet of vehicles, cranes, and heavy plant equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation across our business.
This is a varied, hands-on role that will see you carrying out preventative maintenance, diagnostics, breakdown repairs, servicing, component replacement, and site-based mechanical repairs when required. You will also be responsible for maintaining service records, managing parts inventory, and assisting with cost-effective maintenance solutions.
We are looking for a motivated and reliable tradesperson who enjoys problem-solving and takes pride in keeping equipment operating at its best.
About You
You will ideally have
- A Trade Certificate in Heavy Diesel Engineering
- Proven experience maintaining and repairing heavy vehicles, plant, and equipment
- Strong knowledge of hydraulic systems and hydraulic maintenance
- Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills
- The ability to work independently and manage competing priorities
- A commitment to workplace health and safety
- Good communication skills and the ability to work effectively with workshop and operational teams
- A current Class 1 Driver Licence
- A Class 2, 4 or 5 Driver Licence would be advantageous
- Wheels, Tracks and Rollers (WTR) endorsements would be beneficial
- Forklift endorsement (F endorsement) would be advantageous
