Industrial Controls

Job Description

Join our Timaru team providing industrial electrical, instrumentation and control support across a wide range of processing, manufacturing and infrastructure environments. The role will primarily involve industrial electrical service and maintenance work, with a strong instrumentation and control component, supporting customers across preventative maintenance, fault finding, breakdown support, calibration, testing, commissioning and small upgrade works.

You’ll work alongside electrical engineers, automation engineers and wider project teams, supporting some of New Zealand’s leading companies. While the role is primarily service-focused, you’ll also support larger industrial projects and plant upgrades when required, giving you exposure to different processes, technologies and large-scale industrial environments.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Carry out industrial electrical maintenance, fault finding, repairs and troubleshooting across customer sites
  • Configure, calibrate, maintain, test and commission process instrumentation including transmitters, sensors, control valves and associated equipment
  • Diagnose electrical, instrumentation and process control issues, using PLC/HMI systems to assist with fault finding and minor control modifications where required
  • Complete preventative maintenance, inspections and testing across electrical and instrumentation systems
  • Install and modify industrial electrical and instrumentation systems as part of maintenance, upgrade and small works activities
  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, loop diagrams, P&IDs, schematics and technical documentation
  • Scope and deliver small service and upgrade works, and support larger electrical, instrumentation and automation projects when required, including installation, testing and commissioning

What We’re Looking For:

New Zealand Registered Electrician with a current practising licence

Industrial Measurement and Control (IMC) qualification, or equivalent instrumentation training and experience

3+ years’ industrial electrical service and maintenance experience, with hands-on instrumentation calibration, testing and commissioning capability, ideally within processing or manufacturing environments

Strong problem-solving, instrumentation and electrical fault-finding capability, with sufficient PLC/HMI knowledge to support control system diagnostics and minor modifications

Experience with Beamex or equivalent calibration equipment and calibration management systems would be highly desirable

A collaborative, can-do approach when working with teammates, clients and other contractors, with strong job ownership and the drive to get the job done

Full NZ Class 1 Driver’s Licence, with flexibility to participate in after-hours support, work additional hours during maintenance and commissioning periods, and travel out of the region when required; hazardous areas, machine safety or electrical inspection experience would be advantageous
