Permanent Full-Time | 1 FTE

Join Stepping Stone Trust as our Maintenance Team Leader, where you’ll lead and support our maintenance team to keep properties, grounds, vehicles and equipment safe, functional and well maintained. You’ll play an important role in coordinating day-to-day work and helping create safe, welcoming and home-like environments for the people we support across our services.

Mō Te Tūranga | About The role

As our Maintenance Team Leader, you'll lead and support our Maintenance Team to ensure the day-to-day maintenance of our properties, gardens, grounds and vehicle fleet is coordinated effectively and completed to a high standard.

Working alongside the Facilities & Asset Manager, you'll allocate and prioritise work, provide day-to-day supervision and support to the team, and help ensure maintenance requests are responded to promptly and appropriately. You'll play an important role in keeping our properties safe, well-presented and compliant, while supporting a home-like environment for tāngata whaiora.

In this varied role, you will:

Allocate and prioritise daily work across the Maintenance Team, ensuring reactive maintenance requests are managed effectively.

Coordinate day-to-day maintenance activities across SST, gardens, grounds and vehicle fleet.

Provide day-to-day supervision, coaching and support to Maintenance Team members, monitoring workloads and the quality of work completed.

Willing to be part of the on-call team rostering and must live within the Christchurch city boundaries to be promptly responsive to on-call requests after hours and weekends when on call.

Support the induction, training and development of new team members, and provide feedback to the Facilities & Asset Manager regarding performance, development and resource requirements.

Coordinate contractors for approved maintenance work and identify when specialist trades are required.

Monitor maintenance work to ensure repairs and maintenance are completed safely, to a high standard and in line with SST requirements.

Escalate high-risk, compliance or significant maintenance issues to the Facilities & Asset Manager.

Help ensure properties, equipment and vehicles are maintained in accordance with relevant legislation, Health & Safety requirements, SST policies and applicable standards.

Assist with maintaining the risk register and identifying and addressing potential maintenance and safety risks.

Maintain accurate maintenance records and communicate promptly regarding maintenance requests, progress, risks and issues.

Support practical maintenance projects and contribute hands-on skills when required to help keep our services safe, functional and welcoming.

You’ll be a practical and confident leader with broad maintenance experience and the ability to support and guide a team. A relevant trade, maintenance or facilities qualification would be an advantage, but we’re also interested in people who can demonstrate strong practical experience and leadership skills.

You’ll be organised, reliable and confident prioritising work, solving problems and making decisions. You’ll be comfortable working hands-on when required, while also providing direction, coaching and support to the wider Maintenance Team.

You’ll have a strong understanding of health and safety and compliance requirements, with the ability to identify risks, escalate issues appropriately and ensure work is completed to a high standard. You’ll also be comfortable working respectfully within mental health and disability residential environments and building positive relationships with our teams and tāngata whaiora.

Must Have:

Proven experience in property maintenance, facilities, building or a related trade.

Previous experience leading, supervising or coordinating a team, or demonstrated leadership capability.

Strong practical problem-solving skills and the ability to prioritise and coordinate competing maintenance requests.

Ability to provide direction, support and coaching to team members and monitor the quality of work completed.

Good understanding of Health & Safety, compliance and risk management requirements.

Good communication, record-keeping and organisational skills.

Ability to work respectfully within a mental health and disability residential environment.

Desirable:

A relevant trade, maintenance, facilities or construction qualification.

Experience coordinating contractors and external trades.

Experience working in a mental health or disability residential environment.

Experience overseeing property maintenance, facilities or practical projects across multiple sites.
