**Job Overview**

The Mechanic is responsible for maintaining, repairing, and inspecting traffic control and rental equipment to ensure operational readiness, safety compliance, and minimal downtime. This role supports field operations by keeping portable changeable message signs (PCMS), generators, compressors, trucks, trailers, and related equipment in safe, reliable working condition.

This position is ideal for a mechanically skilled, detail‑oriented individual who thrives in a fast‑paced, hands‑on environment and takes pride in equipment quality and safety.

**Responsibilities**

Equipment Maintenance & Repair

  • Perform preventative maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on traffic control and rental equipment including PCMS boards, generators, air compressors, trailers, light towers, and related assets.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues to return equipment to service quickly.
  • Maintain barrier wall tools, power tools, and small equipment used in field operations.
  • Ensure all equipment meets company, safety, and regulatory standards prior to deployment.

Inspections & Documentation

  • Conduct routine inspections of equipment before and after rental or job use.
  • Accurately document maintenance, repairs, parts usage, and service intervals.
  • Immediately report unsafe or damaged equipment and remove it from service as required.

General Support

  • Track parts usage and help maintain organized shop and yard areas.
  • Work closely with operations staff to prioritize repairs based on project needs.
  • Assist with field repairs or jobsite support when required.
  • Load, unload, and move equipment within the yard or to job locations as needed.

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all safety protocols, lockout/tagout procedures, and company policies.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized shop environment.
  • Troubleshoot electrical, hydraulic, and mechanical issues to return equipment to service quickly.
  • Maintain barrier wall tools, power tools, and small equipment used in field operations.
  • Ensure all equipment meets company, safety, and regulatory standards prior to deployment.

**Experience**

  • Mechanical experience with rental equipment, construction equipment, generators, compressors, or similar machinery.
  • Basic electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to read manuals, diagrams, and maintenance schedules.
  • Strong attention to detail and documentation accuracy.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs and work outdoors in varying conditions.

Preferred Experience

  • Experience maintaining PCMS boards or electronic message signs.
  • Familiarity with traffic control or construction equipment environments.
  • Welding or fabrication skills a plus.

Work Environment & Schedule

  • Full‑time, Monday–Friday with overtime or weekend work as needed.
  • Work performed in shop, yard, and field/jobsite settings.

**Compensation & Benefits**

  • Competitive Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour based on experience and overtime opportunities.
