The Opportunity

This role is based on site daily in our office Lake Forest, IL, Willis Tower office near downtown Chicago or Irving TX. This role is within our ADD division Lab Core team. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

What You’ll Work On

As a Medical Science Liaison, you will serve as the scientific bridge between Abbott and the laboratory community, partnering with laboratory directors, pathologists, clinical laboratory leaders, physicians, and key opinion leaders to advance the understanding and adoption of innovative diagnostic solutions. This is an opportunity to influence the future of diagnostic medicine by partnering directly with the experts responsible for delivering critical laboratory insights that guide patient care.

What You’ll Work On

If hired, you will work at the intersection of science, technology, and healthcare, helping laboratories and health systems adopt innovative diagnostic solutions while shaping the medical strategies that drive better outcomes for patients worldwide. You will bring deep expertise in laboratory medicine, molecular diagnostics, clinical workflows, and emerging technologies while serving as a trusted scientific resource to both external stakeholders and internal partners.

In addition

  • Build and maintain strategic relationships with laboratory directors, pathologists, clinical laboratory leaders, healthcare professionals, investigators, and key opinion leaders.
  • Lead scientific discussions on laboratory medicine, diagnostic testing, clinical evidence, disease state education, and emerging technologies.
  • Partner with laboratory stakeholders to understand workflow challenges, implementation needs, testing trends, and opportunities to improve patient outcomes.
  • Serve as a scientific expert on laboratory operations, diagnostic utilization, assay performance, and clinical application of diagnostic technologies.
  • Gather and communicate actionable field insights, including customer needs, competitive intelligence, testing practices, and market trends.
  • Support evidence-generation activities, investigator-sponsored research, clinical studies, and publication planning.
  • Develop and deliver scientific presentations, educational programs, abstracts, publications, and medical content for laboratory and clinical audiences.
  • Collaborate with internal teams to support successful adoption and utilization of diagnostic solutions within clinical laboratories and health systems.
  • Assist with investigator engagement, protocol implementation, study execution, safety reporting, and regulatory documentation activities, as appropriate.
  • Lead complex projects and apply scientific expertise, independent judgment, and innovative thinking to solve challenges across laboratory and healthcare environments.

Required Qualifications

- Minimum 7 years of clinical experience or technical experience in product development or support.

- Bachelors Degree or equivalent years of experience.

- Ability to travel up to 40%

Preferred Qualifications

- Master's Degree in Science; Ph.D., MD. or DO. is preferred.

- Preferably, individual will have over 7 years' experience within Division in technical area and previous management experience (i.e., manager, project manager).

- Knowledge of how the Division functional areas work together and understanding the needs of our customers is essential for design input.

- Effective communication skills for presentations and demonstrated leadership skills.

- Practitioner with strong knowledge of the relationship between the medical practice, clinical practice and the laboratory.

The base pay for this position is

$113,300.00 – $226,700.00In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
