Job Description

Motorhome Technician

Premium Rentals & Sales

Christchurch

About Us: The Wilderness Difference

At Wilderness Motorhomes, we aren’t your average tourism operator. We are a values-led, family-owned Kiwi business that has been helping global travellers slow down, step away from the busy-ness of life, and reconnect – with themselves, with their loved ones, and with nature.

We hold ourselves to the highest standards—from our luxury, modern fleet to our commitment to people and the planet as a certified B Corporation and Qualmark Gold operator. Our team culture is built on collaboration, inclusivity and doing things right.

He tangata, he tangata, he tangata—people are at the heart of everything we do. We take genuine pride in ensuring every guest enjoys a safe, seamless, and unforgettable adventure.

The Opportunity

We are looking for a skilled Motorhome Technician to join our Christchurch workshop.

In this role, you will play a vital part in keeping our premium fleet safe, compliant, and performing at its best. You will turn rental vehicles around between hires, perform New Zealand conversions on imported vehicles, and refit motorhomes coming out of service, so they meet our high retail standards.

Key Responsibilities:

Rental Turnarounds: Conduct meticulous return inspections using defined checklists. Carry out routine maintenance and repairs across mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and habitation systems, and perform moisture testing to catch water ingress early.

NZ Conversions & Fit-outs: Inspect newly imported vehicles for factory or transit defects, fit custom accessories (e.g., inverters, extra storage), and complete required conversion work for NZ compliance.

Refit & Refurbishment: Assess and execute refurbishment work across bodywork, habitation units, and interior componentry for vehicles moving to retail presentation.

Technical Diagnostics: Work methodically across mechanical (servicing, brakes, tyres, oil leaks), 12V electrical, plumbing/waste systems, and body/habitation fixtures.

Compliance & Quality: Ensure all work adheres to NZ regulatory standards (WOF/COF, EWOF, Gas, Self-Containment) and sign off work to match the Wilderness premium standard.

Systems & Admin: Keep job details, parts, and hours accurately recorded in our fleet management software in real-time.

What You will bring:

We value mindset, integrity, and diagnostic skill just as much as formal tickets. You are someone who lives Above the Line, taking ownership of every detail and preferring to diagnose issues correctly rather than just swapping parts.

Qualifications & Experience:

Experience: Minimum of 2 years maintaining and repairing light commercial diesel vehicles or similar.

Technical Knowledge: Strong mechanical, electrical, and electronic diagnostic skills. Experience with 12V systems, gas appliances, and habitation plumbing is a major plus.

Trade Background: A mechanical/automotive trade qualification is advantageous, but demonstrated hands-on experience matters most.

Certifications (Bonus): Gas certification, EWOF certification, or Self-Containment Inspector status are advantageous (we support training towards these).

Requirements: Full, clean driver’s licence with the confidence to drive large motorhomes, computer literacy for job-card systems, and legal entitlement to work in New Zealand.

Why You’ll Love Working Here

We take care of our team with a competitive package and meaningful perks:

Competitive Remuneration

Health & Wellbeing: Free private health insurance (for eligible team members) and access to an Employee Assistance Programme (EAP).

Adventure Perks: Free or discounted use of our luxury motorhomes so you can experience Aotearoa the way our guests do!

Workplace Culture: Inclusive, friendly environment with regular team lunches, annual team celebrations, modern tech, and free espresso coffee.

Growth: Continuous support for professional development and industry certifications.

How to Apply

If you're ready to bring your technical skills to a values-based team that strives to Be More Awesome every day, we’d love to hear from you! Apply online with your updated CV and a cover letter detailing your experience.
