Operations Manager

About the role
The Operations Manager is a key leadership role responsible for ensuring the effective, safe, compliant and sustainable operation of the organisation. Working closely with the Chief Executive and leadership team, the Operations Manager provides oversight across organisational compliance, buildings and facilities, equipment, staff management and employment relations, health and safety, security, and information technology. The role ensures that the organisation has the systems, people, resources and infrastructure required to deliver high-quality services safely and effectively. The Operations Manager will be a proactive, practical and solutions-focused leader who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational management.
Key responsibilities
Provide effective operational leadership across the organisation and develop, implement and maintain operational policies, procedures, systems and processes
Ensure the organisation meets all relevant legislative, regulatory, contractual and accreditation requirements and maintain an organisational compliance framework
Oversee the maintenance, safety and effective operation of all organisational buildings, facilities and sites, including preventative maintenance programmes and equipment management
Provide leadership and support across the organisation's people management functions, including recruitment, induction, performance management and employment relations
Have organisational oversight and accountability for health and safety systems and processes, ensuring compliance with New Zealand health and safety legislation
Oversee organisational security arrangements, including physical security, access controls and security systems
Oversee the organisation's IT infrastructure, systems, hardware and software, ensuring staff have reliable and appropriate technology
Contribute to organisational strategy, planning and decision-making as a member of the leadership team
Identify operational risks and implement appropriate mitigation strategies
Provide regular reporting to the Chief Executive and leadership team on operational performance, risks and compliance
About you
Proactive, practical and solutions-focused leader who can balance strategic thinking with hands-on operational management
Ability to work with managers to ensure staff are appropriately recruited, inducted, supported and developed
Experience in providing advice and support on employee relations matters, including performance, conduct, attendance, grievances and disciplinary processes
Capability to identify, assess and manage organisational health and safety risks
Experience coordinating health and safety training and education for staff and volunteers
Ability to maintain and regularly review health and safety frameworks, policies and procedures
Experience overseeing IT infrastructure, systems, hardware and software
Capability to manage relationships with IT providers, contractors and technology suppliers
