Pastoral Dean

About the role

The Pastoral Dean works within the Deans Team, to provide proactive pastoral, behavioural, and wellbeing support for students. This is a student-focused role that extends beyond administration and contributes directly to the effective pastoral management of students.

Key responsibilities

Work closely with all the Deans to support the pastoral needs of students

Oversee and coordinate agreed student support measures, interventions, and follow-up actions

Coordinate the follow-up of incidents, ensuring actions are completed, documented, and communicated appropriately

Meet with students to discuss concerns, expectations, restorative actions, and next steps

Communicate and meet with parents/caregivers regarding student concerns, progress, and agreed support strategies

Liaise with teachers, Guidance, Learning Support, Attendance, SLT, and other appropriate staff

Monitor students requiring ongoing pastoral support and ensure agreed interventions are followed through

Support restorative conversations and relationship-building between students and staff where appropriate

Maintain accurate pastoral records and ensure relevant information is shared appropriately

Support the Deans Team with effective day-to-day pastoral management

About you

Strong Communication Skills - Able to communicate confidently and respectfully with students, parents/caregivers, staff, and outside agencies

Relationship Building - Builds positive, trusting relationships with young people while maintaining clear professional boundaries and expectations

Problem-Solving and Sound Judgement - Able to assess situations, respond calmly to incidents, and determine appropriate support and follow-up

Caring Approach - Able to demonstrate empathy, resilience, and an understanding of student needs
