Port Control Officer
Job Description

Port of Tauranga is New Zealand's leading freight gateway, connecting our exporters and importers with the world. As a Port Control Officer, you'll play a critical role in coordinating vessel movements and supporting the safe, efficient flow of activity across one of the country's busiest and most dynamic operational environments.
Working from our Port Control Centre, you'll be responsible for monitoring operations, coordinating resources, communicating with a wide range of stakeholders, and responding to changing operational requirements as they arise. If you thrive in a fast-paced environment where no two shifts are the same, this could be the opportunity you've been looking for.
About the Role
This is a 24/7 operational role that sits at the heart of our marine operations. It's a shift work position working 12 hour shifts, 2 nights, 2 days, then 4 days off.
You'll work closely with pilots, vessel agents, shipping lines, operational teams, contractors and service providers to ensure vessel movements are coordinated safely and efficiently. Using specialist systems and communication networks, you'll maintain situational awareness across the port while helping manage daily operations, operational disruptions and emergency situations.
Success in this role requires strong judgement, exceptional communication skills, attention to detail, and the ability to remain calm and focused when priorities shift.
