Pre-Construction Engineer, Auckland

We're looking for a Pre-Construction Engineer to join our Commercial Team based in Mt Wellington, leading the tendering process for assigned projects, developing programme and methodology, and supporting post-tender.

About the role

This is a versatile role. We're not looking for someone boxed into estimating only, or delivery only. You'll work across the entire tender process, and the focus of your week will shift as each tender demands: estimating one day, methodology and programme the next, post-tender negotiations another.

You'll prepare pricing and productivity calculations; contribute to methodology and programme development using tools like Bluebeam and Microsoft Project; and help identify and cover critical tendering risks in each submission. You'll assist with post-tender negotiations, and on selected projects, support our Project and Contract Managers with commercial input during delivery.

What we're looking for

7+ years' experience in civil contracting, ideally in a Project Engineer or Project Manager role, with a high level of exposure to the commercial/cost management on Projects.

A sound understanding of rate build-ups and what drives construction cost.

Working knowledge of NZS 3910:2013/2023 (essential).

Confident use of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Project.

Experience with structures such as bridges, major retaining walls or culverts is a bonus, not a requirement.

Experience with Benchmark Estimating Software is a bonus.

General exposure to public sector work, in delivery or pre-construction.
