Process Operator – Vacuum Refinery

At Dominion Salt, safety, teamwork, excellence and ownership are at the heart of everything we do. We are currently seeking a capable and motivated Process Operator to operate our Vacuum Refinery Evaporation Plant safely and efficiently, maximising production while maintaining the highest quality and environmental standards.

About the Role

Reporting to the Vacuum Refinery Manager, you will be responsible for monitoring and operating the Vacuum Plant, including the boiler and turbine systems, ensuring production targets are achieved safely and efficiently.

This role works a 4-day, 12-hour shift pattern (2 days, 2 nights, 4 days off), providing great work-life balance.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Compliance

• Maintain safe work practices in accordance with site safety and environmental standards
• Actively participate in audits, investigations and site initiatives
• Complete Permit to Work documentation
• Promptly report hazards, near misses and incidents
• Stop any unsafe acts or activities that compromise food safety, product integrity or environmental compliance

Plant Operations

• Monitor and operate the Vacuum Refinery Plant, boiler and turbine
• Ensure efficient production of the correct salt grades
• Complete required testing and documentation accurately
• Replace/clean filters, wash and flush plant equipment as required
• Raise maintenance requests and liaise with Engineering
• Maintain high housekeeping standards

Quality & Continuous Improvement

• Comply with GMP, HACCP and quality systems
• Accurately record quality data
• Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives
• Support training of new operators (once fully trained)

About You

You will be a practical, hands-on operator who thrives in a structured production environment.

Critical Skills & Experience

• Basic computer skills
• Strong verbal and written communication
• Ability to work effectively in a team
• Physically fit (able to squat, kneel and climb stairs)
• Commitment to continuous improvement, problem solving and trouble shooting

Highly Regarded

• Experience operating an evaporation plant
• Steam boiler and turbine experience
• 5+ years’ experience as a plant operator
• Chemical process knowledge
• GMP or food manufacturing experience
• FSSC 22000 environment experience
• Responsible Person Boiler Operation Certificate
• OSH Forklift Certificate
