About the role

The Science Technician and Laboratory Manager will work collegially to promote a future-focused curriculum in an environment where innovation, inclusion and engagement are prioritised. The role involves overseeing the school's exempt laboratory and ensuring compliance with the requirements of Section 33 of Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act. They are responsible for coordinating hazardous substances management (safe work policies and procedures) in science laboratories and will delegate responsibilities for laboratory management when absent from the laboratory.

Key responsibilities

Preparation of equipment for practical classes including handling and preparing chemicals and biological matter

Assisting teachers in setting up and running demonstrations during lessons

Management of stock and ordering

Working with classroom teachers to oversee the organisation and maintenance of classroom laboratory equipment

Overseeing the school's exempt laboratory and ensuring compliance with Section 33 of Hazardous Substances and New Organisms Act

Coordinating hazardous substances management (safe work policies and procedures) in science laboratories

Delegating responsibilities for laboratory management when absent from the laboratory

About you

Significant practical experience working with hazardous substances in a laboratory environment

Demonstrated knowledge of safe storage, handling, use and disposal of hazardous substances

Experience managing chemical inventories and hazardous-substance systems is highly desirable
