Job Description

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you build and operate the infrastructure and tooling that every Oviva engineering team relies on to ship safely and quickly. You take ownership of key parts of our Kubernetes platform on Google Cloud, from infrastructure as code and GitOps delivery to networking, observability, secure access and developer self-service. Working in a regulated healthcare environment means security, compliance and reliability are part of every decision. By making our platform reliable, secure and easy to use, you directly enable the teams delivering Oviva's digital health services to patients.

Key responsibilities & deliverables

  • Design, build and operate our Kubernetes platform on Google Cloud, including networking, ingress and service-to-service communication, with a focus on reliability, security and cost efficiency.
  • Manage infrastructure as code and GitOps workflows (e.g., Terraform, Flux, Helm), keeping environments reproducible and changes reviewable.
  • Own and evolve the deployment process and tooling so engineering teams can ship their services independently, safely and often.
  • Build and maintain observability (metrics, logging, tracing, alerting) and define service-level objectives together with product teams.
  • Take part in on-call, lead incident response for platform issues, and drive root cause analysis and preventive actions.
  • Build and operate secure access to our infrastructure (e.g., identity-aware and just-in-time access) and manage secrets, working with Security in line with healthcare compliance requirements.
  • Design and implement medium to large platform changes and migrations end-to-end, reducing technical debt along the way and minimizing disruption to users and engineering teams.
  • Become the go-to person for one or more areas of our platform, and take the initiative to learn new technologies as the platform evolves.
  • Build internal tooling and automation, primarily in Go, that removes recurring manual work for engineering teams.
  • Contribute to Oviva's technology evolution via RFCs and Technical Design Documents, and lead design discussions for platform topics.
  • Review infrastructure and pipeline changes from peers, give constructive feedback, and mentor other engineers to accelerate their growth.
  • Actively contribute to team ceremonies and the company's OKR framework, and challenge team processes to find ways to improve them.

Key skills

Essential

  • Extensive hands-on experience running Kubernetes in production, ideally GKE, including cluster operations, upgrades and troubleshooting.
  • Strong experience with infrastructure as code (e.g., Terraform) and GitOps tooling (e.g., Flux) together with Helm.
  • Solid experience with Google Cloud Platform, including IAM and networking, or equivalent depth on another major cloud.
  • Programming experience in Go, or strong experience in another language such as Python and the willingness to work in Go.
  • Experience designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines.
  • Good understanding of networking, security fundamentals and identity and access management in cloud environments.
  • Experience with observability stacks (e.g., Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry or similar).
  • Proven ability to work autonomously and deliver initiatives end-to-end.
  • A strong instinct to automate recurring work rather than repeat it.
  • Great teamwork - making sure the team as a whole succeeds

Desirable

- Driven by a strong curiosity in AI and cutting-edge tech, you're hands-on, experimenting with AI-powered tools (e.g., Claude, Cursor, GitHub Copilot) for infrastructure and automation work.

- Experience with service mesh technologies, ideally Istio.

- Experience with zero-trust and privileged access patterns (e.g., identity-aware proxies, just-in-time access).

- Experience with identity infrastructure such as Keycloak/OIDC or workload identity.

- Familiarity with JVM-based workloads and how to run them well on Kubernetes.

- Experience in a regulated industry, such as healthcare, including audits or compliance frameworks (e.g., ISO 27001).

- Experience building internal developer platforms or self-service tooling.

- Active participation in technical guilds or communities of practice.

- Hands-on experience working in a fast-paced, scale-up environment.
