Senior or Principal Ecologist - Wellington

Ready to lead ecological projects and support the growth of a high-performing team?

We are looking for someone with a strong consulting background and expertise in one or more ecological disciplines, who is ready to lead high-quality ecological assessments, build client relationships, and contribute to a diverse portfolio of projects across WSP's ecology services. You will also support the growth and development of junior team members.

You will work closely with experienced ecologists across New Zealand, benefiting from the technical leadership, collaboration and support of WSP's national ecology team.

This role offers the opportunity to build your profile while working across a wide range of local, national and international projects, including mining, energy, transport and water projects. You will help solve complex ecological challenges, support multidisciplinary project teams, contribute to the continued growth of our ecology services, and help shape the future of our Wellington team.

About the role:

•       Lead and manage ecological projects, from field surveys to data analysis and reporting

•       Provide expert advice on environmental and ecological matters

•       Mentor and support junior team members

•       Collaborate with clients, stakeholders, and industry partners

•       Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and WSP’s high standards

•       Drive business development and contribute to the growth of our ecology services

About you

•       Relevant tertiary qualification and ideally 9+ years’ professional experience

•       Certified Environmental Practitioner (CEnvP) –General or Ecology Specialist, or working towards it

•       Strong technical, analytical, and project management skills

•       Proven ability to work collaboratively and build relationships at all levels

•       Passion for delivering pragmatic, client-centric solutions

•       Commitment to WSP’s guiding principles: valuing people, fostering collaboration, and challenging the status quo
