Job Description
Position Summary
Samsung, a world leader in advanced semiconductor technology, is founded on a simple philosophy – the endless pursuit of excellence will create a better world for all. At Samsung Austin Research and Development Center (SARC) and Advanced Computing Lab (ACL), we are building a center of excellence for Intellectual Property (IP) that is applied to high-performance computing devices (mobile, automotive, and other custom market segments) consumed by millions of people around the world. Come build with us!
Role and Responsibilities
As a Senior Staff GPU System Engineer, you will help drive pre-silicon workload enablement strategy, architecting verification infrastructure and automation frameworks that shape Samsung's next-generation GPU and system-level IP. Your work will define architectural validation approaches, performance predictability standards, and pre-silicon software feature verification practices across architectural models, emulation, and silicon environments.
In this individual technical lead role, you will drive cross collaboration with Architecture, Hardware, Emulation, Software, and PPA teams, while mentoring and guiding engineers across the organization. You bring expert-level knowledge of GPU architecture and advanced rendering systems, with a track record of advancing performance predictability across complex, evolving GPU systems.
- You architect pre-silicon graphics workload verification strategies, methodologies, and execution flows across multiple concurrent projects, setting direction for graphics core and GPU subsystem validation.
- You lead the development of workload capture and replay infrastructure, guiding software middleware development, automation, and scalable testing frameworks that serve Architecture, HW, SW, and Emulation teams organization-wide.
- You resolve the most complex technical issues by analyzing and correlating behavior across the Android system, Vulkan driver and compiler, Linux kernel, architecture specs, emulation, and silicon, setting the technical bar for the team.
- You drive cross collaboration with GPU Architecture, Modeling, Design, Emulation, and Software teams to align on workload strategy and architectural intent, improving overall GPU efficiency and scalability.
- You inspire high performance by mentoring and guiding engineers, exemplifying a culture of ownership and innovation, and influencing technical decisions through data-driven solutions, while staying ahead of emerging GPU architectures, graphics workloads, and AI/ML compute trends.
Skills and Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering, or 8+ years of experience with a Master’s Degree, or 6+ years of experience with a Ph.D.
- Deep understanding of GPU architecture, graphics pipelines, compute workloads, and microarchitecture performance behavior.
- Extensive hands-on programming experience in C++ and Python within Linux development environments.
- Proven experience architecting Vulkan test suites, profiling infrastructure, automation frameworks, and workload characterization methodologies at scale.
- Deep experience analyzing and triaging complex issues in the Android SW stack and Linux kernel in pre-silicon environments.
- Strong command of graphics and compute APIs such as OpenGL, Vulkan, OpenCL, or related GPU software stacks.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with proven ability to identify bottlenecks, propose data-driven solutions, and execute implementation.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to navigate ambiguity and influence outcomes across a fast-paced, global team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with Android device debugging and Linux kernel development.
- Experience with Vulkan, OpenGL ES, or OpenCL API programming or driver development.
- Experience with AI/ML, graphics rendering, or heterogeneous compute workloads.
- Experience with RTL verification, emulation, modeling, or post-silicon performance analysis.
