Position Summary
As a VFD Technician, you will be responsible for ensuring the continuous operation of Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs) that control rotating equipment across the site. As part of the Maintenance Team—including Network, Generator, and Protection Relay Technicians—you will gain expertise in the various VFD brands and models used onsite.
Samsung's facility operates 24/7, so this role requires availability to respond to emergencies outside of regular working hours.
Role and Responsibilities
Here’s What You’ll Be Responsible For
- Inspect, commission, maintain and troubleshoot industrial VFD and motor control systems.
- Execute preventive and predictive maintenance (PM/TBM) on all electrical systems.
- Troubleshoot and restore electrical equipment and power distribution systems.
- Own reliability for assigned systems/areas and drive corrective actions.
- Support commissioning, energization, and system validation activities.
- Maintain accurate work orders, asset data, and documentation in iEMS.
- Perform all work in compliance with safety procedures (LOTO / EEW).
- Support critical spare parts identification and inventory readiness.
Skills and Qualifications
Here's what you'll need
- Relevant experience: 7+ years working on industrial electrical systems (LV/MV power distribution, controls, or facilities maintenance) in an operational facility.
- 3+ years of experience maintaining industrial VFDs (Yaskawa and Mitsubishi preferred).
- Electrical knowledge: Strong understanding of electrical fundamentals, schematics, and troubleshooting methods.
- Hands-on troubleshooting ability: Proven ability to diagnose and repair electrical equipment (switchgear, VFDs, UPS, motors, relays).
- Safety competency: Demonstrated experience with LOTO and safe electrical work practices (NFPA 70E or equivalent).
- Education/Certification: High school diploma or equivalent required; technical degree, apprenticeship, or electrical license preferred.
The current base salary range for this role is between $31.00 - $46.00/hour. Individual base pay rates will depend on factors including duties, work location, education, skills, qualifications and experience. Total compensation for this position will include a competitive benefits package and may include participation in company incentive compensation programs, which are based on factors to include organizational and individual performance.
