About the Role

William Gill & Sons is seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead our heavy transport service operation in Manukau.

This is a leadership role with genuine influence. You will be responsible for leading a skilled team, strengthening customer relationships, improving workshop performance, and contributing to the ongoing growth of our service business.

Reporting directly to the leadership team, you'll have the autonomy to make decisions, implement improvements, and help shape the future direction of the department.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading the day-to-day operation of our truck and trailer service workshop
• Managing workflow, scheduling, technician utilisation, and productivity
• Coaching, developing and supporting workshop staff
• Maintaining high standards of safety, quality and customer service
• Building strong relationships with commercial transport customers
• Monitoring financial performance, labour efficiency and profitability
• Working closely with Parts and Sales teams to ensure seamless customer support
• Overseeing warranty administration and manufacturer compliance requirements
• Identifying and implementing process improvements across the workshop
• Supporting business growth and helping develop the future direction of the service department

What We're Looking For

You will be a motivated and commercially minded leader with a strong understanding of heavy vehicle servicing and workshop operations.

Ideally, you'll bring

• Experience as a Service Manager, Workshop Manager, Foreman, or similar leadership role
• Strong heavy truck and trailer maintenance knowledge
• Proven experience leading teams and driving performance
• Excellent customer relationship and communication skills
• Strong planning, scheduling, and organisational ability
• Sound commercial and financial understanding
• A commitment to operational excellence and continuous improvement
• The ability to lead, motivate and develop people
• Experience within a commercial vehicle dealership environment will be highly regarded.

Desirable Qualifications

• Heavy Automotive Engineering Trade Qualification
• Experience within the heavy transport or commercial vehicle sector
• Class 4 or Class 5 licence
• Dealership or manufacturer experience
