Welding supervisor

About the role

MPF Engineering is seeking an experienced Welding Supervisor to join our team in Tauranga, Central Bay of Plenty. This is a full-time position that offers a fantastic opportunity to lead and manage welding operations within a dynamic engineering environment. As Welding Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing welding teams, ensuring quality standards are met, and contributing to the strategic delivery of our welding projects. This role is essential to maintaining our reputation for excellence in the Trades & Services industry and will see you work on-site at our Tauranga location.

Key responsibilities

Supervise and manage welding teams, including scheduling, task allocation, and performance management

Ensure all welding work meets required quality standards, safety regulations, and project specifications

Conduct regular inspections of welding work and perform quality control checks

Maintain accurate records of welding procedures, inspections, and team performance

Provide training and guidance to welding staff on techniques, safety protocols, and equipment operation

Liaise with project managers and clients to ensure timely delivery of welding projects

Manage welding equipment maintenance and ensure proper calibration and upkeep

Identify and address safety hazards, ensuring compliance with health and safety legislation

Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and process optimisation

Support recruitment and development of welding personnel

What we're looking for

NZ welding qualifications or equivalent international credentials recognised in New Zealand

HERA welding supervisor AS2214.1

Quality management systems to AS/NZS 1554, AS/NZS 5131, SFC and AS/NZS ISO 3834.

Experience in QA Management

Minimum 5 years' experience as a welder with at least 2 years in a supervisory or leadership capacity

Comprehensive knowledge of welding processes, techniques, and materials (including MIG, TIG, and stick welding)

Strong understanding of welding standards, codes, and quality control procedures

Demonstrated ability to lead, motivate, and manage teams effectively

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

Proven track record in health and safety management and incident prevention

Problem-solving ability and attention to detail

Valid driver's license and willingness to travel if required

* Preferred experience in boilermaking or heavy fabrication environments
