APPRENTICESHIP - Fitter/Mechanic Heavy Plant and Equipment
Job Description
Menard Oceania Pty Ltd are seeking an enthusiastic **Apprentice Fitter** to join our team in the construction industry. You don’t need previous experience — just a willingness to learn. In this role, you’ll be trained to help maintain and repair heavy equipment and machinery used on civil and foundation construction projects.
**Key Responsibilities**
- learn to maintain and repair machinery by assisting qualified fitters with hands‑on tasks.
- Help with inspections of tools, equipment, and machines to check for wear, damage, or faults.
- Support in assembling and dismantling parts of heavy equipment under supervision.
- Follow instructions and training plans to develop technical skills and safe work habits.
- Use basic hand and power tools safely and correctly once trained.
- Keep the work area clean and organised, including cleaning tools and equipment.
- Assist with routine servicing, such as changing filters, lubricating parts, and checking fluid levels.
- Record basic maintenance details like job notes, parts used, or issues found (with guidance).
- Follow all safety procedures and PPE requirements to ensure a safe work environment.
- Ask questions and seek help when needed to build knowledge and confidence in the role.
- Work collaboratively with site teams to minimize downtime.
**Required Experience**
- No prior experience required.
- Must be currently enrolled in a TAFE Fitting & Machining (or related) course or committed to beginning one.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
**Qualifications**
- Currently enrolled in a TAFE course in: Certificate III in Engineering – Mechanical Trade (Fitting & Machining), or relevant mechanical/engineering apprenticeship program.
- Completed Year 10 or equivalent
- Basic mechanical interest, enjoy hands‑on work, tools, or learning how machinery works.
- Physically fit and able to perform manual tasks safely.
- Willing to learn and follow instructions from experiences fitters and technicians.
- Current driver’s license.
- White Card (Construction Induction Card) is advantageous but not essential.
- High commitment to safety standards.
