Assistant Accountant

• We are looking for a motivated, analytical and detail-oriented Assistant Accountant to join our Finance team.
• This is a fantastic opportunity for someone who is looking to develop their accounting and commercial skills in a fast-paced, growing retail business.
• As part of the Finance team, you will play an important role in supporting the day-to-day financial operations of the business, maintaining strong financial controls and contributing to accurate and timely financial reporting.
• The role offers a mix of hands-on accounting, financial analysis and opportunities to get involved in process improvements and wider business initiatives.
• Key Responsibilities
• Assist with month-end reporting, including preparation and posting of journals, accruals and reconciliations.
• Prepare and maintain balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring accuracy and timely resolution of outstanding items.
• Assist with cash and bank reconciliations and related financial reporting.
• Support the management and monitoring of capital expenditure, including maintaining the fixed asset register.
• Assist with budgeting, forecasting and financial analysis, providing insights to support business decisions.
• Support accounts payable processes.
• Assist with GST, FBT and other statutory reporting requirements.
• Support the annual audit process and preparation of supporting schedules.
• Work collaboratively with the wider Finance team and business stakeholders to deliver accurate and timely financial information.
• About You
• We are looking for someone who enjoys getting into the detail, takes ownership of their work and is keen to continue learning and developing.

Ideally, you will have

• A tertiary qualification in Accounting or Finance.
• At least two years' experience in an accounting or finance role.
• Be working towards, or intending to pursue, a CA or CPA qualification.
• Strong Excel skills and confidence working with financial data.
• Experience with Xero or a similar accounting system.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to accuracy.
• Good communication skills and the confidence to work with people across the business.
• The ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
• A proactive approach, with a willingness to challenge existing processes and identify improvements.
