Bilingual Tutor/Liaison
Job Description
Green Bay High School is looking to appoint two part-time Bilingual Tutor/Liaisons, one Arabic-speaking and one Dari-speaking with knowledge of Pashto, to join our team.
These are term-time only positions, commencing in Term 4, 2026 through until the end of Term 1, 2027 for approximately 10 hours per week. Days and hours will be agreed with the successful applicants. These roles may extend next year.
The roles are designed to help our multilingual students access learning successfully and feel confident and connected at school. A significant part of the role will involve working alongside students and teachers in mainstream classes, helping students understand learning, develop their English language skills and become increasingly independent learners. There will also be opportunities to work with students individually or in small groups.
The liaison part of the role will help strengthen the connection between school and families. This may include helping new students and families with enrolment and orientation, explaining school systems and expectations, and supporting communication between the school and parents and caregivers.
We are looking for people who:
- are fluent in either Arabic or Dari with understanding of Pashto and strong spoken English
- enjoy working with teenagers and can build positive, respectful relationships with young people
- are able to work collaboratively with teachers and other staff
- can communicate confidently and sensitively with families
- demonstrate cultural awareness, patience and good judgement
- are organised, reliable and are comfortable using everyday digital tools
Experience working in a school, supporting English-language learners, tutoring young people, or working with refugee or migrant communities would be an advantage, but is not essential. We are interested in people with the right language skills, personal qualities and willingness to learn.
You will be supported through an induction into Green Bay High School and will work closely with our ESOL staff, teachers and others who support our multilingual learners.
These roles provide an opportunity to make a real difference for students and families by helping young people access their learning, navigate school successfully and develop the confidence to participate fully in school life.
Applicants must be legally entitled to work in New Zealand. This role is classified under the Children’s Act (2014), and as such, the appointment will be subject to a satisfactory police vetting check.
