An eligibility list will be established to fill vacancies for full time, part time, evening, summer, and substitute positions throughout the duration of the eligibility list. Eligibility lists typically last for six months. Vacant positions are filled from the top three ranks. Pursuant to PC Rule 6.2.10, the eligibility list established for this recruitment may be used for another related classification at the same or lower salary.Applicants must provide the Personnel Commission with a copy of the following at the time of application (you may upload the documents to your online application): Current three-year driving record (request a form "K4" at a local California DMV office or via mail request by filling out a California DMV INF 1125 form by visiting: https://www.dmv.ca.gov/portal/dmv/detail/forms/inf/inf1125). The K4 form should be dated within 30 days of submitting your application.Type-1 School Bus Special Driver Certificate with code 0, 1, or 6 restrictions (from DMV)Class A or Class B California Driver License with passenger endorsement or equivalentCurrent medical certificate approved by the DMVCurrent first aid cardONLY APPLICANTS WHO SUPPLY THE ABOVE DOCUMENTS WILL BE TESTED.

EXAMPLE OF DUTIES

Drives a school bus or transportation vehicle over assigned routes in accordance with an established time schedule.Transports children to and from school.Loads and unloads students safely at designated stops and on study trips.Adheres to District policies and procedures regarding student discipline, and public contact with parents and community members.Performs daily safety inspections.Stops traffic and escorts children across streets, when necessary.Prepares daily reports on student loads, mileage, type of trip, and standby time.Reports problems or equipment malfunctions.Transports children with special needs.Washes, sweeps, mops, and polishes the interior of a school bus or transportation vehicle.Performs minor first aid.Cleans up after ill children.OTHER RELATED DUTIESMay remove graffiti from bus seats.Perform other related duties as assigned.DISTINGUISHING CHARACTERISTICS AMONG RELATED CLASSESBus Driver operates a school bus, over designated routes within established time schedules, transporting students to and from school and on special event trips.Dispatcher prepares student transportation routes and bus driver schedules for home-to-school, special education and extra-curricular trips, and provide work direction and guidance to bus driversBus Driver Trainer assists in planning and supervising the school pupil transportation program to train drivers, and to do other work as directed.PHYSICAL DEMANDSEmployees in the classification sit, pull, climb stairs, stoop/bend, use fingers repetitively, twist or apply pressure with wrists or hands repetitively, use both hands and/or legs simultaneously, have rapid mental/muscular coordination, speak clearly, hear, have depth perception, have color vision/distinguish shades, see small details and for long distances, operate mobile motorized equipment, drive a vehicle.WORK ENVIRONMENTEmployees in this classification work inside and outside, in changing temperatures to over 90°, gas, exhaust, and cleaning solvent fumes, dust (moderate to high concentrations of silica or allergenic dust), odors, moving vehicles, exposure to minor and severe contagious illnesses/diseases (colds, flu, tuberculosis, measles, mumps, chicken pox, hepatitis), in direct contact with the public, students, district personnel.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION

Knowledge of: Safe driving practices.Basic first aid.Basic safety and maintenance requirements of automotive equipment.Provisions of the California Motor Vehicle Code and the Education Code and the California Administrative Code, Title 13 applicable to the transportation of students.Ability to: Drive a Type-1, 76 passenger, or more, standard shift or automatic transmission school bus with air brakes safely and efficiently.Maintain appropriate student behavior on a school bus.Follow oral and written directions.Learn the proper methods of bus safety inspections and maintenance.Handle situations with tact and diplomacy.BUS DRIVER REQUIREMENTS
