Job Description

Carpenters, Paroa Hotel, Greymouth

Paroa Hotel Limited is a family-owned hospitality business in Greymouth on the West Coast. We run Paroa Hotel, Sevenpenny and the Recreation Hotel, and we have a steady programme of building, renovation and upkeep work across all three sites. We are taking on carpenters to do that work in-house.

The job

Permanent, full time

Monday to Friday. Occasional Saturday work may be available by agreement and is paid at the same hourly rate.

Guaranteed hours: a minimum of 30 guaranteed hours per week

Pay range: $30.00 to $37.00 per hour, depending on skills

Based at Paroa Hotel, with most of your work at our own venues: Paroa Hotel, Sevenpenny and the Recreation Hotel, all in Greymouth

At times you will be placed with local construction businesses in the Greymouth area, working on their sites under their site supervisor. You stay employed and paid by Paroa Hotel Limited throughout, and your guaranteed hours apply either way.

What you will be doing

Carrying out building and renovation projects at our venues, such as guest room refurbishments, bar and restaurant fit-outs, decks and outdoor structures

Reading plans and specifications, measuring up and working out materials for each job

Cutting, assembling and fixing timber framing, wall linings, flooring and finishing work

Installing doors, windows, cabinetry, shelving, joinery and hardware

Repairing and replacing damaged timber, cladding, floors and fixtures as part of ongoing building upkeep

Planning your own work on our sites, ordering materials and keeping jobs on schedule

Carrying out carpentry work on construction sites when placed with a local building business

Working safely and following health and safety procedures on every site

To be considered for this role you must have:

A minimum of 2 years' relevant work experience as a carpenter, or a New Zealand Level 4 qualification in carpentry (or an equivalent overseas qualification)

The ability to read and work from building plans and specifications

Competence in the safe use of carpentry hand tools and power tools

A good standard of physical fitness, and the ability to work outdoors and at heights

A current full New Zealand driver licence (or an overseas licence able to be converted), as travel between Greymouth job sites is part of the role

A Site Safe Construction Passport, or willingness to obtain one. We will support you to complete this.

The legal right to work in New Zealand, or eligibility to obtain a work visa

What we provide

Tools and equipment

A work vehicle for travel between sites

Staff accommodation if you want it, at $220 per week with all bills included. This is optional.

To apply: send your CV through Seek, with a copy of your trade qualification if you have one.
