Post No. POSN004223 - Community Learning and Libraries Assistant
Are you passionate about the work of public libraries? Do you enjoy helping people find the information they need? Do you want to work at the heart of the community, providing a vital public service to all?
If so, come and join our friendly team.
We need customer-focused people to help us provide the best library experience for our customers, all whilst having fun doing so!
The vacant roles are casual in nature so you will need to be flexible in working shifts, as and when needed. While there are no guranateed hours, each week, these postholders will be filling in for holiday and sickness cover. As such, there are plenty of shifts available throughout the year. These positions are not suitable for home working or hybrid working, as they are required to be physically present in libraries.
You will carry out a diverse range of tasks with no two days being the same, helping customers to get the most out of their libraries.
You will be helping customers find specific titles and reserving them, dealing with new membership, signposting customers to websites for information, booking customers on to IT support sessions or author events, preparing and delivering story-time and singing sessions for babies and toddlers and encouraging children to join reading activities.
You will also undertake tasks to ensure the smooth running of the libraries: processing new stock using our library computer system, dealing with email and phone enquiries, cashing up and associated processes, unpacking and sorting items arriving in crates from around the city and liaising with contractors arriving on site for maintenance and repairs.
Manual handling, display screen equipment, and other training will be given, to ensure tasks are carried out safely.
All posts are subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service enhanced disclosure check.
We welcome applications for all our jobs in either Welsh or English. An application submitted in Welsh will not be treated less favourably than an application submitted in English.
