Post No. POSN005423 - Parent Practitioner

Making a real difference for families in Newport

Every family faces challenges from time to time. As a Parent Practitioner, you'll play an important role in helping parents and carers build confidence, strengthen relationships and create positive change for their children.

Working directly with families across Newport, you'll provide practical support, deliver evidence-based parenting interventions and help families develop the skills and resilience needed to overcome challenges. Your work will help improve outcomes for children, strengthen family wellbeing and prevent difficulties from escalating.

This is a rewarding opportunity to join Newport’s Parenting Team and become part of a dedicated team committed to helping families thrive and ensuring children have the best possible start in life.

The support provided by Parent Practitioners can have a lasting impact on children, young people and their families. By helping parents build confidence, improve relationships and access the right support at the right time, you'll contribute directly to stronger families, improved wellbeing and better outcomes across Newport.

As a Parent Practitioner, you will work directly with parents, carers and families to deliver targeted interventions and support. You will help parents identify strengths, overcome challenges and develop the confidence and skills to support their children's development and wellbeing.

Working as part of the parenting team, you will build positive relationships with families and partner organisations, helping to ensure families can access the support they need when they need it.

We're looking for someone who is passionate about improving outcomes for children and families and who can build positive, trusting relationships with people from a wide range of backgrounds.

You will have experience of working with families, excellent communication skills and the ability to engage and motivate others. You'll be confident working independently while also contributing positively as part of a wider team.

Experience of delivering family support, parenting interventions or working within a community, education, health or social care setting would be beneficial.

In return, you'll join a supportive team and have the opportunity to make a genuine difference to the lives of children, young people and families across Newport.

You'll also benefit from Newport City Council's generous annual leave entitlement, Local Government Pension Scheme and ongoing learning and development opportunities.

Other Opportunities

We are also recruiting to a second Parent Practitioner vacancy with a particular focus on engaging fathers, father figures and male carers. Candidates are encouraged to review both opportunities before applying.

If you're passionate about helping families achieve positive change and want to make a meaningful impact in your community, we'd love to hear from you.

For an informal discussion, please contact Ann Price, Parenting Team Leader, on 07483 381172 or Annmarie Wallwin, Parenting Team Leader, on 07976 749130.
