About the Clinic
CareVets Kilbirnie is an established companion animal clinic with an exciting next chapter ahead — we’ll soon be moving into a brand-new purpose-built clinic, with some new equipment to further support our team and patients.
We have a friendly, social team who enjoy working together and supporting one another. We value open communication and sharing knowledge, and we want everyone to feel comfortable contributing ideas and asking questions.
The clinic is supported by an ultrasound machine and a team committed to providing high-quality patient care. We also offer in-clinic support for training and a CPD allowance to help our vets continue developing their skills.
About the Role
This is a full-time Companion Animal Veterinarian position working 42 hours per week, with every second Saturday and no after-hours.
You’ll be involved in a varied companion animal caseload, with the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and contribute to the wider team.
Your responsibilities will include
- Providing high-quality consultations and preventative healthcare
- Diagnosing and managing a range of companion animal medical cases
- Developing and managing appropriate treatment plans
- Performing routine companion animal surgery and procedures
- Using diagnostics, including ultrasound, to support patient workups
- Building trusted relationships with clients and providing clear, compassionate communication
- Mentoring and supporting junior veterinary team members
- Sharing knowledge and clinical information with colleagues
- Working collaboratively with the wider veterinary and nursing team
- Maintaining high standards of patient care and clinical records
- There may be times when you need to work independently or in a more sole-charge capacity, so confidence using your clinical judgement and managing your workload is important.
- About You
- We’d prefer someone with 2–3 years of companion animal veterinary experience, although we’re more interested in finding the right person who will fit well with our team.
You’ll ideally have
- A relevant veterinary qualification and registration to practise in New Zealand
- Experience in companion animal general practice
- Confidence with routine medical cases and surgery
- Good clinical judgement and problem-solving skills
- Strong communication skills and the ability to build trusted client relationships
- Confidence working independently when required
- A willingness to share knowledge, information and ideas with colleagues
- A collaborative approach and strong team focus
- An interest in mentoring and supporting junior team members
- A commitment to ongoing learning and professional development
- A positive attitude and willingness to get involved in the social side of the team
Above all, we’re looking for someone who is personable, team-focused and enjoys working with both people and animals. Someone who communicates well with clients, contributes to a cohesive team and is happy to share what they know will be a great fit.
