Bring your dairy expertise and passion for the industry to Lakeland College, where hands-on learning helps prepare the next generation of agriculture professionals.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe School of Agricultural Sciences is seeking a dedicated and experienced Dairy Coordinator to support the day-to-day operations of our Dairy Learning Centre and provide students with valuable, hands-on learning opportunities.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nKey Responsibilities\r\n\r\nManagement and Training of Dairy Staff\r\n\r\n\r\n\tPrepare and manage shift schedules for dairy personnel, ensuring adequate coverage.\r\n\tTrain new staff on protocols and procedures and organize training sessions with suppliers.\r\n\tFacilitate regular team meetings to foster communication and teamwork.\r\n\tConduct performance reviews in collaboration with the Farm Manager.\r\n\r\n\r\nSustainable Operation of the Dairy Learning Centre\r\n\r\n\r\n\tMonitor expenses and revenues to adhere to budgetary guidelines.\r\n\tMaintain a clean and safe environment adhering to biosecurity protocols.\r\n\tCollaborate on nutrient and manure management plans with the Farm Manager.\r\n\r\n\r\nOperation and Optimization of Technology\r\n\r\n\r\n\tManage and optimize technology systems including automated feeding and milking systems.\r\n\tUtilize herd management software to track and enhance herd performance.\r\n\r\n\r\nStudent and Industry Interaction\r\n\r\n\r\n\tProvide guidance and support to the Student Managed Farm (SMF) Dairy Team.\r\n\tCoordinate use of dairy facilities for academic and educational purposes.\r\n\tFoster relationships with industry stakeholders and promote the Dairy program\r\n\r\n\r\nDaily Chores and Milking\r\n\r\n\r\n\tConduct milking of dairy cows including sanitization of milking systems, cleaning cows, attaching milking units, and monitoring robotic milking systems.\r\n\tPerform health checks on cows and calves, treat ailments, and manage breeding and calving processes.\r\n\tManage feeding schedules, movement of cows and calves, and ensure cleanliness of barn and milking parlor.\r\n\tMonitor milk quality and treat for mastitis, as necessary.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nJob Requirements\r\n\r\n\r\n\tPost-secondary agriculture related education\r\n\tManual labour and shift work is required.\r\n\tValid Alberta Driver’s License.\r\n\tDemonstrated passion for and connection with the Canadian dairy industry.\r\n\tMinimum of five years of experience working in a dairy.\r\n\tExperience managing and supporting a team of people.\r\n\tStrong computer skills.\r\n\tThe ability to perform artificial insemination would be an asset.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nAdditional Information\r\n\r\nThis is a Full-time Continuing Administrative position, located on the Vermilion campus, commencing as soon as possible. The current salary range is $69,848 - $91,474 per annum and includes a market-leading benefit package: Extended health care and dental coverage, health and wellness spending account, group life, long-term disability and death benefits, generous pension plan, vacation and special leave days, and access to college recreational facilities.
