\r\n\r\nJob Description\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nThe Opportunity:\r\n\r\nReporting to the Continuous Improvement Manager, the Energy Management Specialist will implement conservation measures, monitor energy consumption and seek out opportunities for increasing energy efficiency of the manufacturing facility. Working closely with Efficiency Manitoba, this position plays a critical role in the successful implementation of energy conservation within the facility.\r\n\r\n \r\nAny MLF team member interested in being considered for this role are encouraged to apply online by March 24. Applications received beyond that date are not guaranteed consideration.\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nSnapshot of a Day-in-the-Life:\r\n\r\n\r\n\tExecute on Maple Leaf Foods’ corporate sustainability strategy.\r\n\tDevelop and oversee strategic energy management programs to drive organizational energy efficiency and sustainability goals.\r\n\tImplement and maintain utilities metering systems integrated with dashboards to monitor energy consumption, identify anomalies, and recommend energy-saving opportunities to management.\r\n\tManage and prioritize the development and execution of energy efficiency projects across the Maple Leaf Foods - Lagimodiere plant.\r\n\tAssessing potential energy savings and preparing business cases to justify capital expenditures.\r\n\tReviewing contractor bids, processing invoices, and coordinating with vendors during site visits.\r\n\tCoordinating internal teams for installation, commissioning, and monitoring to verify savings performance.\r\n\tPrepare and submit applications for incentive programs (Federal and Provincial) to maximize funding for energy-saving initiatives. Typical projects may include system redesigns, machinery upgrades, retrofits, lighting improvements, and sensor installations.\r\n\tLead regular energy audits to identify optimization opportunities and ensure continuous improvement.\r\n\tPrepare and present monthly reports to management, tracking progress toward key performance indicators and providing insights on energy reduction strategies.\r\n\tAdvise management on operational changes and recommend actions to curtail power consumption, especially during peak demand periods, to optimize processes and reduce electricity costs.\r\n\tFacilitate regular meetings with energy teams to communicate project successes, share best practices, and promote energy efficiency among senior leadership.\r\n\tLaunch and promote energy reduction campaigns to encourage behavioral changes among operators, focusing on efficient use of resources and improved shutdown procedures. Support these campaigns through internal communications such as newsletters and employee meetings.\r\n\tFoster a culture of sustainability by engaging employees at all levels and driving continuous improvement in energy management practices.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWhat You’ll Bring:\r\n\r\n\r\n\tA professional engineer, preferably in mechanical or electric discipline, with 3+ years of experience in energy engineering, energy management, energy-efficient design of industrial systems and processes, or facility operations;\r\n\tA Certified Engineering Technician (CET) with 5+ years’ experience in energy engineering, energy management, energy-efficient design of industrial systems and processes, or facility operations; or\r\n\tPost secondary education with 10+ years’ experience in energy engineering, energy management, energy efficient design of industrial systems and processes, or facility operations.\r\n\r\n\r\nIt is recommended that all candidates possess the following knowledge, skills, and experience:\r\n\r\n\r\n\tKnowledge of operation, maintenance and management systems related to the Participant’s facilities and industrial processes.\r\n\tKnowledge of energy efficient technologies pertaining to buildings and industrial processes.\r\n\tInterest and enthusiasm for energy efficiency, and the promotion of employee engagement and widespread adoption of an energy management culture throughout the Participant’s organization.\r\n\tAbility to gather, combine and analyze data from various sources (energy consumption, system operation, process outputs) to determine interdependencies and trends.\r\n\tAbility to perform financial analysis calculations.\r\n\tExperience in detailed report writing required to obtain internal buy-in from all levels internally and key stakeholders (Senior Management, Building Operators, and Occupants).\r\n\tProject management experience in a business environment related to energy reduction.\r\n\tExcellent presentation, verbal, and written communication skills.\r\n\r\n\r\n \r\n\r\nWhat We Offer at Maple Leaf Foods:\r\n\r\n\r\n\tBeing part of a high-performance, people-focused company that has an inspiring and unique vision to become the most sustainable protein company on earth, and a deep commitment to sustainable protein across North America.\r\n\tAn inclusive company culture and a work environment that keeps our people safe, rewards excellence, and empowers everyone to learn and contribute their best.\r\n\tCompetitive Health and Wellness benefits that offer flexibility to meet your individual or family needs, including programs focused on improving mental health and wellbeing.
