Are you passionate about supporting children and families to thrive? We are seeking three Family Practitioners on 12-month fixed-term contracts to join our Children & Families Service in North & Mid Devon.

Working closely with our experienced and dedicated Social Workers, you'll contribute to safeguarding children, strengthening family resilience, and delivering meaningful interventions that create lasting change for children and young people. This is a fantastic opportunity for anyone looking to develop their career in Children's Social Care.

About the Role

Family Practitioners play a vital role within the Children & Families service, working alongside Social Workers to help keep children safely within their family networks wherever possible.

By providing practical support to families experiencing challenges, Family Practitioners deliver targeted assistance whilst building positive relationships that promote lasting change.

As part of a supportive and collaborative team, you will work closely with partner agencies to provide early help, respond to emerging needs, and improve outcomes for children and young people across the local community.

About You

As a Family Practitioner you will be persistent, tenacious and assertive, particularly when working with families who may have previously resisted interventions. You will be skilled at developing strong relationships with families and by providing hands-on help, support, and guidance you will encourage positive and permanent change.

We are looking for someone who advocates for the children and young people of Devon with a professional and positive approach, in line with statutory obligations. You will champion restorative practices and foster a collaborative culture, promoting reflection and learning within the team.

Key skills and experience include

Experience working in social care, particularly in multi-agency and court environments

Strong written and verbal communication skills

Ability to build effective professional relationships with children, families, and colleagues

Proficiency in IT skills

Excellent recording and planning abilities

A valid UK driving licence and access to a car (exceptions may apply under the Equality Act)

You will be expected to travel between visits and due to the size and rural nature of North & Mid Devon, it is an essential requirement of this role to have a full UK licence and access to your own reliable transport (subject to reasonable adjustments that may need to be made in line with the Equality Act 2010).
