Finance Manager - 30 Hours - Broad Small Business Role

About the role

Active Contracting Limited (ACL) is a busy civil construction, earthmoving and drainage business seeking a Finance Manager to take ownership of the finance function. This is a broad, hands-on role in a small team where finance is your primary focus, but you'll also be involved in payroll, HR, health & safety, IT and general business administration. You will report directly to the Managing Director and Owner, working closely with him and the wider team to keep the business running effectively.

Key responsibilities

Finance – your primary focus

• Lead the finance function and manage one direct report
• Manage day-to-day financial operations
• Handle accounts payable and receivable
• Manage invoicing and debtor management
• Administer payroll and leave
• Perform bank reconciliations and balance sheet reconciliations
• Execute month-end processes and management reporting
• Monitor cashflow and forecasting
• Ensure financial compliance and reporting
• Support annual accounts and external accounting requirements

Payroll & HR

• Manage the payroll process
• Maintain employee records and leave information
• Support employment documentation and processes
• Assist with recruitment and onboarding
• Support performance management and other HR processes as required
• Maintain confidentiality around employee and business information

Health & Safety

• Maintain health and safety records and documentation
• Support incident and near-miss reporting
• Follow up required actions
• Assist with compliance and health & safety administration

IT & General Administration

Support day-to-day IT requirements

Liaise with external IT support when required

Manage user access, systems and basic IT administration

Maintain office systems and processes

Handle general administration and documentation

Experience in civil construction, construction, earthmoving, engineering or another project-based environment would be highly regarded.
