Financial Accountant

They are now looking to add a Financial Accountant to their small, close-knit finance team based in the heart of Mount Maunganui.

This is a senior role within the finance function, reporting directly to the CFO and providing an excellent opportunity for an experienced CA/CPA-qualified accountant to take ownership of group financial reporting while gaining strong commercial exposure across a diverse farming operation.

About the Role

As Financial Accountant, you will be responsible for the Group's financial reporting and consolidation processes, technical accounting and tax compliance. You'll also play an important role in supporting the CFO with financial analysis, modelling and decision-making across the Group's farming operations.

This is a hands-on and varied role where you will work across the detail of the numbers while also stepping back to understand what they mean for the wider business.

You'll have regular interaction with farm managers and the wider finance team, providing financial insight and helping non-financial stakeholders understand and manage their financial performance.

The role also provides an opportunity to lead, mentor and support the wider finance team, helping to develop capability and improve processes and systems.

Key Responsibilities

Own the Group's monthly and annual financial reporting and consolidation processes, ensuring accurate and timely reporting across multiple entities.

Manage month-end and year-end close, including intercompany reconciliations and technical accounting requirements.

Prepare and review GST and other tax compliance requirements, working with external advisors as required.

Support the annual audit process, including preparation of audit files and liaison with external auditors.

Provide financial analysis, cashflow forecasting and reporting to support farm performance and operational decision-making.

Support the CFO with financial modelling, scenario planning, debt covenant reporting and board reporting.

Provide leadership, mentoring and technical support to the wider finance team, reviewing work to ensure accuracy and compliance.

Drive improvements across finance systems and processes, including the effective use of Xero, automation and new technologies.

About You

You'll be an experienced qualified accountant who enjoys combining technical accounting expertise with commercial thinking. You'll be comfortable working independently, taking ownership of your responsibilities and communicating financial information in a way that makes sense to people outside of finance.

You'll also have

CA/CPA qualification and a relevant tertiary qualification in accounting or finance.

5+ years' post-qualification experience.

Strong experience across financial reporting, consolidation and technical accounting.

Experience preparing consolidated financial statements across multiple entities.

Commercial or industry accounting experience, ideally within a complex multi-entity environment.

Agribusiness, primary industry or similar experience would be highly regarded.

Strong knowledge of Xero and an interest in embracing new technology and AI tools.

Excellent attention to detail and a high level of technical accounting knowledge.

Strong communication skills and the ability to build relationships with non-financial stakeholders.

The ability to manage competing priorities and consistently meet reporting deadlines.

Previous experience mentoring or supporting other finance team members.
