Te tūranga | The role
Help build a strong financial foundation for Waikato Waters. Reporting to the Financial Controller, you’ll bring technical expertise across financial accounting, reporting and compliance — ensuring our financial records, statutory reporting and audit deliverables are accurate, reliable and on time. Your work will support confident decision-making by the Board, Executive and senior leaders.

Lead general ledger, month-end and year-end close processes, maintaining accurate records and strong financial controls.
Take responsibility for the balance sheet, reconciliations and financial statements, and lead fixed asset accounting — from capitalisation and depreciation to impairment and disposals.
Ensure transactions comply with accounting standards, tax legislation and internal policies, and supplier payments are timely, accurate and properly authorised.
Deliver reliable Board, Executive and management reporting, and provide expert advice on accounting treatments, emerging issues and audit findings.
Oversee statutory reporting and audit processes, acting as the primary contact for external auditors.
Maintain finance master data, reporting structures and approval workflows, improving data quality across systems.
Strengthen financial controls and processes, identify and mitigate risks, and contribute to financial systems development, upgrades and integration.
Ō pūkenga | What you’ll bring
You’re a qualified accountant who combines technical expertise with ownership, integrity and a collaborative approach. You provide clear, evidence-based advice, value different perspectives and bring steadiness and care through change.
A qualified accountant with 5+ years’ post-qualification experience.
Demonstrated experience in financial accounting, reporting and audit management.
Strong knowledge of accounting standards and statutory reporting requirements.
Experience managing general ledger, month-end and year-end processes.
Experience with ERP software such as SAP, NetSuite or Infor.
* Previous Systems Accountant experience is desirable.
