We’re looking for an Apprentice Toolmaker to join our workshop team and learn the trade alongside experienced tradespeople.
This is a hands-on opportunity to develop your skills in fitting, machining, tooling and mechanical maintenance, while working towards your trade qualification through an approved apprenticeship programme.

- This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working with their hands, figuring out how things work and learning a skilled trade.
You’ll ideally have
A relevant pre-trade qualification
NCEA Level 2, including Maths and English
Good mechanical aptitude and an interest in machinery and how things work
A practical, hands-on approach
Basic maths skills and an ability to work with measurements
Good attention to detail and an appreciation of the importance of accuracy

A strong work ethic and positive attitude
Reliability — you turn up, on time, ready to work and keen to get stuck in
* The ability to work well with experienced tradespeople and as part of a team
You don't need to know everything already. What matters most is your attitude, mechanical aptitude, reliability and willingness to learn. We'll help you develop the technical skills you need to become a qualified toolmaker.
Hours of work
Our factory operates Monday to Friday, 7.00am to 3.30pm, with occasional afternoon shifts when production requirements increase and occasional Saturday overtime.
Why MiTek?
You'll be joining an established manufacturing team where you can learn from experienced toolmakers and engineers while gaining practical, on-the-job experience.
This is an opportunity to earn while you learn, complete your apprenticeship and develop a skilled trade that can lead to a long-term career in toolmaking and manufacturing.
If you're practical, reliable, curious about how things work and ready to learn, we'd love to hear from you!
