Job Description

The Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media Practice sits at the heart of Kingston School of Art, where the course delivers the conceptual, practical and technical skills to showcase students’ strengths and creative direction. Students develop insight and understanding across the fields of art and design to define what they want to study further on degree programmes at university or beyond.

This fellowship position is a role specifically developed for a recent KSA graduate and will be a rich and meaningful learning experience that builds upon your own developmental journey studying at Kingston School of Art. You will embrace working in this fast-paced environment and hope to attract graduates who actively want to contribute to the reputation and ethos of the Foundation Diploma in Art, Design & Media Practice.

You will be working across two campuses, Penrhyn Road and Knight’s Park with responsibility for supporting students and working alongside academic staff and the senior technician within Foundation. The key role will be to provide high-quality professional, technical and academic support to the students and to ensure the safe, technical and sustainable function of the studios, culminating in designing, fabricating and building the Foundation end of year show.

We hope to build an inclusive student-centered culture within the faculty’s workshops, across Foundation studios and remotely to underpin the collective aims of the course so that there is a clear understanding of how meaningful and disciplined workshop practice can effectively support the development and facilitation of ambitious and materially responsible student work.

The Person

Above all else we are looking for individuals with a creative mind, a people-centered work ethic and a passion and interest in teaching and education, with the potential to develop new technical approaches to working across campuses, in studios and online and who can bring something unique and generous to the team.

We hope you will contribute to the University’s objective of securing an outstanding reputation for research-informed learning and integrated academic practice through the support of technical and practical innovation.

To ensure the safe operation of all processes within the faculty workshops and studios and support the University’s Health and Safety policy.

All candidates will be expected to demonstrate their commitment to professional development, displaying respect for colleagues and students alike and seeking opportunities to increase the effectiveness of the student experience and their integrated academic practice.

There is a lot to learn and we champion a diverse and inclusive working environment, training will be provided in all areas. We actively welcome applicants from diverse backgrounds and are committed to equal employment opportunity regardless of race, nationality, religion, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age or disability. Please make contact if you need any assistance or additional aids to compete this job application.

You are able to progress your own work and practice during the periods of the week when not employed by the University, when the post-holder will have access to the technical workshops of the Faculty. During these periods the post holder remains subject to all policies and procedures of the University.
