Graduate Engineer | IT, OT & Cybersecurity
Job Description
Start your career in IT. Build towards OT & Cybersecurity Engineering.
What if your first graduate role gave you exposure to both the IT world and the industrial systems that keep Australian industry running?
At Alliance Automation, we’re looking for a Graduate Engineer to join our team and begin a structured development pathway into Operational Technology (OT) & Cybersecurity Engineering Consulting.
You’ll initially work within our Internal IT Team, building hands-on experience across networks, infrastructure, systems, troubleshooting and cybersecurity. This will give you the technical foundations and practical understanding needed to progressively move into our OT & Cybersecurity team, where IT and engineering come together in complex industrial environments.
We’re looking for a technically curious graduate who enjoys solving problems, wants to understand how things work and is excited by the opportunity to build a career in a rapidly evolving area of engineering.
Why Alliance Automation?
- At Alliance Automation, you’ll be learning in a business where IT, engineering, automation and cybersecurity come together to solve real industrial challenges.
- As a graduate, you’ll have the opportunity to build practical technical capability, learn from experienced engineers and specialists, and progressively broaden your exposure from IT into industrial technology, OT and cybersecurity.
- You’ll have the opportunity to:
- Build practical technical skills and experience
- Learn directly from experienced technical professionals
- Develop knowledge across IT, cybersecurity and industrial technology
- Gain exposure to Australian industries and operational environments
- Develop your communication, consulting and client-facing skills
- Access ongoing professional development and career opportunities
- We also offer:
- Professional Development Scheme
- Generous paid parental leave
- 20 days annual leave
- Optional four-week Purchased Leave Scheme
- Flexible working arrangements supporting work-life balance
The Opportunity
- Your initial focus will be within our Internal IT team, where you’ll build strong technical foundations and learn how technology supports a national engineering business.
- You’ll gain hands-on exposure to:
- IT systems, networks and infrastructure
- Microsoft and enterprise technology environments
- Hardware, software and system configuration
- Troubleshooting and technical problem solving
- Networking and communications
- Cybersecurity fundamentals and secure technology practices
- Technical documentation and system administration
As your skills and experience develop, you’ll progressively gain exposure to Operational Technology and industrial cybersecurity, including:

- OT infrastructure and architecture
- IT/OT integration and convergence
- Industrial cybersecurity and IEC 62443
- System configuration, testing and troubleshooting

- Technical consulting and client engagement
- The development pathway will give you strong IT foundations before progressively building the industrial technology, cybersecurity and consulting capability required to become an OT & Cybersecurity Engineering Consultant.
What We’re Looking For
We’re deliberately keeping the degree specialisation broad. You may be graduating in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Information Systems, Cybersecurity or another relevant technical discipline.
More importantly, we’re looking for
Strong technical curiosity and a genuine interest in technology
An interest in networking, cybersecurity and industrial systems
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
A practical, hands-on approach
Good written and verbal communication skills
The confidence to ask questions and learn
A collaborative approach to working with others
A willingness to travel to client sites as your career develops
Previous exposure to networking, cybersecurity, programming, IT support, industrial automation, PLCs or SCADA is advantageous, but it isn’t essential.
